Most audiences will no doubt understand this as a document of abuse, exposing to the light of day the indefensible methods of the Russian sporting machine. In fact, it is not that. What we see is undoubtedly abusive. But what we are shown is really a story about the sacrifices that are accepted in order to pursue an ability to the highest pinnacle. Most people prefer comfort to sacrifice, and even more so for their children, and this makes them quick to condemn those who demand such sacrifices.
