The lack of polish and hollywood typical trappings left me buying in and becoming immersed to when the movie reached it's emotional conclusion I actually broke down in tears. I can't say that about many things really at all.

Not a fan of Ray Romano,(neither his stand up, nor his long running sitcom) but he was very good in this. Oscar worthy even.

This one crushed my soul. Everything was just perfect in its tone and reach. Well written, well acted, so crushed my soul at the ending I can't describe it with words. Romano's recent more serious acting work is really doing well, he did break out the mold a little bit here.

Paddleton is a heart warming and heart breaking movie all at the same time. The friendship between the two men is genuine thanks to incredible performances from Duplass and Romano. It will have you feeling real emotions and questioning how things like this can happen. It dives deep into their relationship and their quirks and that makes the ending so much more impactful and tear jerking than most of the same nature. Such a great movie

In its low-key indie drama construction it doesn't break any new ground but it sure broke my heart-can't remember the last time I cried that many sad tears from a movie (see the climactic scene in the bedroom). The quirky central friendship is very touching, and is expertly and lovingly portrayed over the smart screenplay's short time period (though I'm not sure I liked how the denouement shifted the focus away from it). Beautifully acted (Romano is particularly brilliant as the awkward Andy).

Lehmann doesn't show much growth, as "Paddleton" is nearly identical in structure and pace to "Blue Jay" - it's just much harder to sit through. The fact that the characters are already familiar with one another beyond words, makes for a totally depressing watch. Being unremarkable is part of the film's DNA, but I can't say it makes for a provoking piece of cinema.

It's very simple and honestly I can appreciate most things about it, such as the performances by both of these men and the relationship between them. But I can't say I was overly enjoying it. However, it is really emotionally, specifically the ending bit which just about killed me as well. So I give it a 70 because it was so powerful by the end.

Sweet understated film. Delectable dialogue. It's not going to win any Oscars but if you ever looked after someone who was terminally ill with whom you had a unique chemistry, you will probably relate. What makes this relationship so poignant, is that they only have each other.

Part of the film's brilliance is how simple it is. The movie is all about the friendship of the two main characters, and both the writing and the acting deliver without being too sparse and boring. Tonally Lehmann and Duplass create the perfect blend of humor and sadness. To me though Ray Romano was the clear highlight, carrying over much of the same success he had from The Big Sick. While Romano's tv shows keep getting canceled he has managed to find a second wind with these Indie films.

Romano is very good and the first scene offers a great deal of promise. But the film feels empty in a bad way--these guys so completely isolated from everything outside their friendship. The insularity is off-putting, leaving the script feeling half baked and conclusion ringing more hollow than it should.
