Long and pointless. A failed experiment for everyone involved. Hearing Clint Eastwood sing was never on my cinematic bucket list.

My reaction was pretty similar to that of the Simpson's. Homer: Agh! They're singing! They're singing, Marge! Why aren't they killing each other? Bart: Yeah, their guns are right there. Homer: Wait, wait, wait: here comes Lee Marvin. Thank God. He's always drunk and violent. Homer: [ejects tape] Ooh, why did they have to ruin a perfectly serviceable wagon story with all that fruity singing?

Wow I can't believe what I just watched. This movie is really bad. Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin are both miscast and the screenplay is ludicrous. The story is over long and the songs are uninspired. It is hard to believe people thought this would make a good movie.

I think that the world would be a better place if everyone saw Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood singing together. Since this movie is the only place that you can get such a marvelous collaboration, everyone must watch it. At least see it to the intermission, because this puppy is unnaturally long. If you liked it up until then, you'll like the rest. Meh!

Ugh! A wild misfire of a musical that gets a 10 from me only for its value as high camp. Clint Eastwood sings? Believe it. It's ugly.

Everything is just so extraordinarily unusual. Basically exists in its own parallel reality where Lee Marvin & Clint Eastwood are trying to be passed off as some comedic/musical talent [Marvin is the superior] & traditional conventions are an afterthought, if anything. The songs were kind of blah but I have a strange appreciation for this that I can't quite understand; definitely ambitious and well made and the lengthy run was barely a deterrent.

Not fond of musicals and it is very strange to see Clint in one, however this is a very funny and most enjoyable film.

By far my favorite Comedy, Musical, Western. Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin sharing a wife, wow! "I was born under a wandering star..." Classic! Everyone should see this film at least once, you'll gain new respect for Eastwood.

The Heaven's Gate of Western/Musical/Comedies. They built a western town, destroyed it, and paid Lee Marvin a million dollars to get drunk all day. But, the colossally earnest Marvin/Eastwood vocal performances make the thing less fruity than most "pitch perfect" smile-a-minute musicals tend to be. Marvin ranges from silly Three Stooges facial expressions in one scene, to a touching two minute single cut rendition of 'Wanderin Star.' Great performance.

If this was like the Simpsons parody it would be watchable and kind of campy fun. There's not enough songs to make it a fun musical and the story outside the songs is too boring to bother with.

Outstanding comedic dialogue by Marvin, with Eastwood playing the straight laced set up man. Music is scarce but good but any more would make the movie too long.

Memorable songs, funny one-liners, Where it doesn't work as a musical, it excels as a comedy about gold miners -

"Paint Your Wagon" is one of my favorite musicals, it's lighthearted, and I enjoy the music. Sometimes I find these songs replaying in my head, even "I Talk to the Trees"

I resisted this one for a long time even though I heard great things. A 2 1/2 hour musical Western is a tough sell for me. Turned out I loved it. Especially, Lee Marvin's performance, funny and super entertaining.

As a musical, it's not good, and it's perversely long. However, if you like Marvin og Eastwood (or both), you do need to see this one.
