I could never really connect with this. Maybe because a panic room, for me, is wherever my fiancé asks me when we're going to have kids. Thank you, thank you, I'm so happy you love my material. I'd love to say that I'll be here all night, but seeing as this is my actual life I'll be taking a dive out of the window shortly.

Fincher's always been enamored with twisting New Hollywood stories into modern shapes. Here, with a premise indebted to Straw Dogs, he extends that to a Monster in the House genre. The post-9/11 paranoia of elites is represented in a house that was built for protection, only to become an instrument of terror. The virtuoso camerawork is distracting, as is a final third with no real compelling dramatic secrets. Still, for a director who makes "movies" & "films" this is competently made fun.

I thought this was really well done! Way better than half of the robbery/home invasion movies made. It has actual characters with actual conflicts. The tension was actually compelling, it was well plotted (another win for Koepp), and Fincher’s distinct style and dark, gritty look and feel are still in tact. Sometimes a guy just wants to make a fun movie. Aside from Leto’s wooden performance and some distracting CGI, this was great from beginning to end. Well worth watching.

A 21st century Hitchcockian suspense film. Is there an odder trio of baddies in film history than Whitaker, Yoakam, and Leto? There should be a warning before you watch a film that Jared Leto is about to appear, especially when he shows up with cornrows.

Does not get enough hate. The digital camerawork is dated and unnecessary, and just about every plot point once the action starts is contrived to the point that surpasses camp value. It's the kind of absurdity that makes you embarrassed so much time and energy went into trying to convince people of this shlock. Jodie Foster does show lots of cleavage, though.

Starts with some great flashy camerawork and opening credits, but soon the elaborate camera movements stop coming and the requisite contrived twists and complications start piling on. This all culminates in the horrible last twenty minutes, ruining any built-up goodwill. Fincher tries his best to elevate a poor script and inconsistent acting, but the flaws are too many to ignore. His weakest film.

The title is all wrong. It doesn't capture the unsatisfying pointlessness of it all nor the characters need for personal space and privacy. Masturbation Room is much more apt. No one would try bursting in on Foster in there.

One of the better thrillers. The premise is great. Even though it's one of David Fincher's lesser works, it's still really good. I thought Kristen Stewart was fantastic, especially for someone who would have only been 11 or 12 at the time. Jodie Foster is good too. There are a lot of interesting things that happen, and even upon rewatches, are still enjoyable even though you know how they'll play out. Also Jared Leto looks weird with cornrows.

This movie should be a short film. Not enough to keep you interested in watching them bounce around the house for the full length of the film. If you like Jodie Foster, stick with Flight Plan. She does much better in that enclosed spaced film.

Hey, is this that prequel for that new movie The Purge? No, it's just another middle of the road film starring Jodie Foster and a semi-suspenseful plot. Only type of purging would be wiping this from your memory.

Utterly engrossing despite a contrived script that even calls out its own plot holes (but doesn't excuse them). Jared Leto is a riot. I'm not sure whether I like the goofy-ass Home Alone first half or the more respectable second half when Fincher buckles down, lays off the camera gimmicks, and goes for real trauma.

David Fincher does his best with this crime thriller starring Jodie Foster and Forrest Whitaker. Unfortunately, the overly one dimensional script fails to bring the film's premise to promise. For a popcorn thriller, Panic Room delivers enough tension and mystery to endure a sitting or two, but repeat viewings will only expose the story's hollow center.

Pretty mediocre movie that could've been easily resolved but Jodie Foster's daughter had diabetes so the door to the "panic room" had to be opened. Fincher's lamest movie. No particularly good performances (given the script, how could there be?), instead a simple series of episodes involving the premise of being locked in a Panic Room. I guess in this sense the name doesn't lie, but it becomes boring really quick.

It stretches the bounds of plausibility at times, and those CGI tracking shots sure haven't aged well, but this is an extremely gripping movie nonetheless. I'm not sure if I'm entirely sold on Foster's performance here, but the remainder of the cast - including a young Kristen Stewart - are strong, Fincher's direction ramps up the tension effectively, and the Panic Room concept is exploited to its fullest extent. Does its job very well indeed.

Fincher wanted a relaxed 'popcorn thriller' after FC's exhausting xp, and found it in Koepp's pulpy script. Fincher experiments with CGI sets and 'unreal' camera movs (PWSA'd elevate that years later) provided by computer programming in order to construct such a deliberate, yet relentless chamber film about insecurity, surveillance and fear in the big city. It ended up completely rewriting Fincher's filmmaking, from videocliptic frenzy to procedural compositions and spatially dense set pieces.

David Koepp does a fantastic job whether he is writing or directing movies. This movie is taught and feeled with suspense from beginning to end. The acting is good and shows us the amazing talent of Forest Whitaker, which by the end of this film makes you realize that he too can step into any rule and do a fantastic job. Dwight Yoakam played his part to perfection and the rest of the cast was definitly A-list. This movie is gripping and hits where it hurts. Home invasions are scary.

A very, very decent thriller. It has a crappy foundation of a mediocre script and wonky story that excepts all sorts of contrivances (I would pay no money to be in a panic room with two easy ways to pump gas into), but it's supported by some good acting here and there (Foster is alright, Stewart is bad as usual, Whitaker is great, Leto is good) and some stylised (sometimes a bit too flashy) directing from Fincher, though I feel he's too good for this sort of mundane material.

I. Love. This. Movie. I love the absurd plot, the ham-fisted villains, Jodie Foster's swing-for-the-fences performance, Fincher's claustrophobic settings and long, winding shots, the whole thing. Fincher manages to make this little thriller awfully effective and even nail-bitingly suspenseful at times, even though his direction lacks the elegant subtlety that marks his finest works, such as "Seven" and "The Social Network". The premise is clever enough and although the development and finale are typically full of lame cop-outs, "Panic Room" works like a charm thanks to Foster's powerhouse performance and the polished direction that manages to overcome the absurdities of the plot.

As someone who is not a Fincher fan, except for Se7en (1995), this is actually a much better film than some of his newer works. It suffers the same problems as most of his films - that for his technical gift as a director his films feel cold and empty - but as a genre story this is less of a problem here than with a more serious work, allowing him to use his camera tricks and ideas to create something that is successfully tense and engaging, rather than attempt something profound poorly.
