Paper Planes

Works fine enough, and it's certainly a unique concept, but it plays it safe and features most of the "sports" cliches in the book. The main kid is a far better actor than Worthington.

So this is a very beautifully portrayed movie. With fantastic Australian cast. But it is hard for everyone to enjoy. Not enough was explained. And was quite long and dreary in some parts. However, The music and cinematography is sensational throughout. There are some redeeming features. But I have seen better

Paper Planes works just fine. Some very important lessons are portrayed here, and anyone can learn them. A dime a dozen, that is true, but one better executed then most. 60/100.

Falls flat due to a complete reliance on trite stereotypes. Occasionally slightly touching.

A very old formula that sometimes works (Bad News Bears) and sometimes doesn't (the remake of Bad News Bears). Wasn't expecting a whole lot. I mean, what can you do with a paper airplane competition? Turns out, a lot. Nice scenery of rural Australia, a bit of Sydney, and lovely montage of Tokyo contribute to this story which I absolutely loved. The biggest downfall of this film is the generic performance by Sam Worthington.
