Again, the disregard for sensitivity turns a woman's dogma into cinematic agony. It's brutal, with a powerful dynamic behind the trilogy.

Like watching creatures in mourning. This is a punishing film with extreme resilience to ever let up. I am being rocked by this trilogy.

While it has ample similarities with other Seidl movies, this one resonated a bit less with me. I particularly fault the crucifix masturbation scene - whereas in the other movies the characters seemed to be very ordinary and portray parts that all of us contain, this one just was a bit too much over the top to make the same point.

Seidl shames his audience yet again, but this time even more aggressively tense and uncomfortable, to the point of exhaustion. Or maybe I've gone soft. He puts Hofstätter through hell and high water, I don't even think her breakdown is an act. If you want to punish yourself with a movie in a strangely satisfactory way, try the paradise trilogy.

It's tempting to say that Seidl sort of makes the same film over and over again, and i've even suggested as much myself. This, in particular, could easily be seen as merely a repeat of his documentary Jesus, You Know. But as the film progresses, it becomes clear that it's less of a repetition than an elaboration on a theme. As with the other films in the Paradise trilogy, Seidl lends his characters here a complexity that goes well beyond the provocation of his earlier work.

Much like its predecessor, Paradise: Love, tedium is the name of the game. This is an experience that requires much effort to squeeze any possible engagement from the vapidity on display.
