Paradise Lagoon

Classy class-based comedy / romcom.

Harmless little comedy starring Kenneth More as a butler named Crichton in post-Victorian England who is shipwrecked on a south seas island with his lord and his family. The tables are turned on the family when their pampered lifestyle and upbringing are completely unsuited for their surroundings, and they turn towards Crichton for the help they need to survive.

Very Enjoyable. Victorian period. Tests the class system, love without arranged marriages, survival of the fittest, heartbreak, and more. (Gorgeous ladies as well, I must say)

Fun, smart, social comedy about England's class system. I enjoyed it - but have no need to watch it again.

Cast on a desert island where there are no classes, where skill and aptitude count, the servant becomes master, the master servant. This will hold few surprises for audiences; still there's something rather satisfying in the demonstration. PARADISE LAGOON is an interesting example of the way movies scavenge on themselves and their theatrical ancestors, and an indication of why: there's a solid nugget of entertainment in many of the old repertory items.
