Enjoyable and engaging story that does a pretty good job contextualizing the experience of a suicide bomber. It does, however, have some rather heavy handed sermonizing in places and some of the changes of heart by the main characters seem rather sudden. Nashef does an excellent job, though, as the despondent and conflicted extremist.

Ignoring the real forces at play behind Palestinian terrorism - indoctrination since childhood, radical Islamism, antisemitism, this subtle propaganda film spins the touching yarn of two handsome youths who by no fault of their own decide to snuff a busful of innocent lives. It even spares us the horrific key scene - the mass-murder, presumably because the dead Jews are not the issue. Its climax consists of Said moping about how his dad's being a collaborator was a blow to the family's dignity.

A thought-provoking drama that is not for the easily disturbed.

Enjoyed watching this but feel that it isn't very deep. The difficult subjects this movie deals with felt like they had been just dropped into it, with calculated 'realism'. It felt a bit too 'everyday' & artificial. A longer timeline seeing these people grow up and see how they're lives are affected by Israelis (f.ex. people mourning and then many joining the resistance movement and later their father co-operating with Israelis) Shots that'd easily transmit the roots of their anger to my heart.

Good portrayal of the other side of terrorism/fundamentalism.

Whatever your feelings on the attitudes and justifications presented by the characters in the film, they do feel like a genuine expression of the way many Palestinians view their lives. Better editing and more fleshed out characters would probably have helped the film make a stronger impact, but the strong performances do a lot with what's on screen.

There are some little truths here (the way everyone ducks momentarily then carries on after a distant explosion, the recruiters so ingratiated with families, the assumption that anyone in a suit is going to a wedding) that transmit the hopeless degradation of Palestine. The rest of it's too caught up in trying to neatly encompass a vast and intractable conflict; the plotting and motivations are heavy handed as a result. Its preoccupation with filmmaking is especially out of place and unserious.

While this challenging film does get a little preachy at times I felt it was well worth the watch.

Brave and well acted drama that shows the other side and humanizes the bad guys from so many movies. Definitely a movie that everyone should see.

In many ways, it's angry and tender, because Abu-Assad focus on love, friendship and politics, despite its straightforward shape.

One of the most controversial and significant issues of this era, the relationship of Palestine and Israel with the additional issues of suicide bombing and martyrdom through violence, and sadly the film ends up being simplistic political discussions between the characters on the subject that lead to nothing significant and doesn't cause one to re-examine all they have seen. The result neutralises such an important subject a Western viewer like me should be concerned about.

Technically pretty decent, acting works and the subject matter is handled with style despite the lack of depth in discussing the politics behind the story.

This movie really threw me for a loop. I knew nothing about this going in and at first I thought that this was a Romantic Dramedy but boy was I wrong. The filming style is almost documentary like and was the spot on and powerful acting. My only complaint was the ending which I found to be underwhelming and unsatisfying.
