Stoic Alan Ladd doesn't bring much heat to this typical war movie. The dorky guy gets out, someone dies to prove how dangerous it is, there's a kind commanding officer, etc. Nothing really notable about it, though the romance is more tacky than just tacked on, whatever that means.
