The life of Irish politician Charles Stewart Parnell, following from 1880 onward his struggle to free his country from English rule, pursued in prison, Parliament, and elsewhere. Emphasis is on the relationship with married Katie O'Shea which threatens to bring all Parnell's plans to ruin. Moderately accurate historically. (imdb)

Two powerful performers and a talented director have an off day on this problematic biopic of an Irish politician and his scandalous relationship.

Clark Gable & Myrna Loy in a major drama about Irish politician Charles Stewart Parnell! And they dropped the ball. Looking past the fact that none of the American actors even try to sound 19th century Irish, the story is terribly dull. Gable is tremendously toned down. Loy even more. You barely notice she's there even if she is the other party in this overly romantic farce. The court case and the political party speech toward the end were light highlights in an otherwise pointless romance.
