Mostly buoyed by Posey. Wonder what this film would be like if it was made by a more competent director.

Parker Posey is outstanding in the lead role. If you are a fan of Posey's then you must check out this film. The story is pretty straightforward, nothing special but there are several funny, quirky characters in this film.

Why did I watch this? I mean Parker Posey is certainly committed, but other than that it seems like this movie just didn't know how to be the kind of movie it was trying to be. It wants desperately to be this stylish indie movie about the 90's NY dance scene, and it kind of achieves that with some of the music selections, but then it also wants to be this movie about Parker Posey abandoning said scene, finding love, and becoming a librarian. All with unfunny random comedic moments thrown in.

Delightful little movie carried by Posey's charm and ebullience. Captures a nice slice of life in 90s lower Manhattan. Very funny in some parts, dull in others, could have been a classic but settles for being a nice little movie instead

Parker.P's is a sassy delight, but her posse is a pass, and the script is too poor to even be passé - but you go, girl! *Preview*: #14#, popcorn, story, ratings, Parker.P/7.

Extremely clunky in parts but Parker Posey just rocks so much. So much style. Had the chance to be an all time 90’s NY movie but just doesn’t completely work

Fun '90s lo-fi urban tale follows standard comedy formula but with trappings, attitude, and spirit Hollywood wouldn't touch at the time. It's slow going on occasion and there's not much depth but enough charm and laughs made it worth watching. Whether Posey's Mary is Irrepressible or insufferable is up for debate. Mostly, I was just rooting for the Godmother.

This has a lot of "you had to be there" vibes all throughout (mostly unfamiliar to me, who grew up only knowing dances in the school gym). It's funny in spots but pretty boring in others. (I suspect if I had more fashion sense, I'd really love it.) Whatever I may have thought, it's clear that the cast had a blast with most of the scenes. Favorite moment: the books on the staircase.

Parker Posey is the party girl, reduced to working for her god mother as a librarian. Despite her obvious lack of skills and party girl attitude, and motivated by her god mothers constant complaints, she applies herself to become a competent librarian. The movie is full of immature antics and shallow side plots and remains only barely interesting to the end. But Parker Posey makes it worth watching.

Way more fun than it has any right to be, largely due to Posey.

Cool movie, definitely felt more progressive and original than some of the movies today. (Not saying it was VERY original, but still.) I loved the main character and how the movie was all about her doing her thing. There was a lot of freedom in her character without it coming across as cheap or like a trope. All-in-all the film was predictable at a few points but overall small, simple, and enjoyable for what it is. Standard chick flick, but more chick less romance.
