Occasionally heavy-handed in its view of the rift between wealthy officers and their underlings, but overall outstanding and incredibly emotionally powerful. I borrow from another user in agreeing that I was devastated by its ending.

The power of this film is unexplainable.

One of the greatest anti-war films ever made, and one of Kirk Douglas' finest performances.

I watched this movie with fresh eyes a few years ago. It was my first time seeing it and I never knew anything about it. This is one of my favorite war movies. The battle itself is certainly lacklustre by today's standards, but the power of human emotion and the message behind this film is untouchable. The Kubrick that many people don't know of, see this one as soon as you can.

Great, but not quite as concise as Kubrick's later films.

Paths of Glory is one of Kirk Douglas best performances as Col Dax, working to save his men from being shot as cowards. Everything about the movie is well done. There is no bad acting, the pace, photography and dialogue are some of the best you'll ever see. Scene after scene is more powerful than the one preceding. It's a classic movie, deserving a place on anyone best movie list.

I have a vague feeling I've seen this before... An effective exposition of the absurdity of war and strict hierarchy.

Paths of Glory is a transcendentally humane war movie from Stanley Kubrick, with impressive, protracted battle sequences and a knock-out ending.

I'm going to ask you one question: What makes a good movie? Is it the immersive story? Is it good acting, great lighting, and cinematography? Or should it stick with you after the movie has ended? Well, I'm willing to say that this movie has it all. The only reason this gets a 90 / 100 and not 100 / 100 is that some sections don't hold up to today's standards, like how someone randomly brings up a cockroach from nowhere and the overheard conversation about death. It ruined a little.
