Patience (After Sebald)

Great for picking up gems of Sebald himself but as a whole it's a bit scatty, unfocussed with some pretty pointless observations from some questionable interviews.

A kind of collage of essays, mostly on The Rings of Saturn, good stuff.

seems excellent. would even be better for me if only I had read the book beforehand. but I'll read, and watch it again. (yes, x2)

Sebald in the short time I've known his work has quickly become my favorite writer. This short, dreamy documentary does relatively well in matching the mysterious, transcendental essence of "The Rings of Saturn". At times it feels a bit Room 237-ey, especially that picture of the smoke, but it truly is a buried gem of a film that will mean a ton to those who find it. This of course is cemented by the brilliant soundtrack of the genius that is The Caretaker.

Too much of a formulaic film for me, but The Caretaker's soundtrack introduced me to this visual essay. Aesthetically it's well-rounded and pretty decent overall.

Probably great for Sebald fans - but meaningless for those ignorant like me
