Tom Clancy's ubermenschen American hero CIA analyst Jack Ryan takes on the world in the first of many shit films. There's lots of Harrison Ford looking stern for the camera. Action on a boat against hardcore movie stylized IRA terrorists and some other implausible stuff. The action choreography is pretty lame too.

The writing, the acting, the photography... it's all flat. There is virtually no suspense or thrill to be had here.

Five points extra for the scene where Harrison Ford enhances a satellite photo until he can confirm he is looking at a woman and, satisfied, says "Tits!".

Patriot Games is a decent spy thriller and it's not far behind 'The Hunt for Red October' as one of the better Jack Ryan films. Harrison Ford is definitely the best actor to be cast as Jack Ryan and I enjoy both of his two performances as the CIA analyst. Sean Bean gives a decent performance also as an IRA assassin. What I enjoy about the Jack Ryan character is that he's not the usual indestructible action man. And this understated but interesting thriller is a good alternative to a Bond film.

A mostly dramatic movie advertised as an action movie. And the action itself could have been better. But the plot is interesting and some suspense is there.

Boring, dated, 100% predictable. 30 minutes too long and not enough going on.

It actually becomes mildly unintentionally funny watching Sean Bean go after Harrison Ford and his family over and over; it's like, is that really your only and final goal as a big bad terrorist guy? Like, get a fucking life! It's actually a kind of entertaining flick though; I dig and really miss that 90s thriller vibe.

Ah, the good old photo/video enhance gimmick. Gotta love the marvels of technology - and a classic line: "What's that?" "Tits." Albeit this is not a bad film, it suffers from... having Harrison Ford in it, however strange that may sound. Don't get me wrong - he's awesome. But Alec Baldwin was such a strong Jack Ryan in THFRO that it made it harder for me to connect with Ford's characterisation. Perhaps if I hadn't seen THFRO this would've felt more satisfying.

Patriot Games is the second appearance of the Jack Ryan character in movies. The casting in this movie is great. James Earl Jones wasn't utilized much but he was welcome. Ford plays a great CIA agent. Sean Bean is a good bad guy. Jackson isn't utilized much either but he did earn a spot on another Ryan movie. The movie was enjoyable but there wasn't much of consequence to the movie. I might have scored it higher if the movie had more to say. Red October was better than this but this wasn't bad.

Viewed April 15, 2021. Sturdy, vaguely intelligent thriller - the kind that never gets made nowadays. The boat chase at the end is ridiculous, but also proof that any given action movie from the past has more interesting images than any given CGI'd comic book movie from the present.

one of the most godawful irish brogues ever laid down on film. ford is lackluster as the hero, jack ryan. like most other tom clancy novels set to film, it falls far short of the book itself.

Irish terrorist can't take responsibility for his brother dying in failed assassination attempt the movie. The fact that this is so much of the plot just makes the premise feel a bit weak. It would have made more sense to focus on them continuing to try to attack/kill/kidnap the British Royal (which they kind of do) then have the focus be on Jack Ryan. Even so it's not a bad movie, just flawed and full of action/thriller cliches.

Good old Jack Ryan portrayed by Harrison Ford is a great espionage movie. Harrison is one of those actors who just punishes all other costars by making himself THE STAR in every film he's in. The movie itself has a great plot and is a very satisfying spy-thriller. In some parts it tends to drag on and you wonder why it is taking so long to come to the climax. Never fear the movie is still a must see and very entertaining.
