Paw Patrol: The Movie

A serviceable kids' movie - no more, no less.

Perfect for Toddlers and Fans, not much to offer for anybody else. A basic Animated rescue film. It’s stupid to get too worked over it as it entertained my very young Nephew. The Fans will have a blast with it and some of the music is catchy. They seemed to put more effort into this compared to what I’ve seen of the TV series. Animation is simple and clean. Voice work is fine. Jokes are a bit weak, but does the job if you need a young kid or Fan to entertain. 6/10 for Fans.

The kids love it and the film is coy enough to mock its own merchandising success (fav scene). Let's not think too much about any of this. Cute pups outside of their costumes. Liberty was so annoying. Rider has horrible hair. Pups had nice fur details. Marshall wasn't being dumb.

Cheerfully benign animated film is bouncy and colourful enough to no doubt satisfy its target audience and not be too painful for older audiences; while it probably won’t win any new fans, it’s perfectly satisfactory for what it is, though one wonders what the point of throwing in an umpteenth faux-Trump villain into the mix is.

Not the worst 1,5 hr toy commercial I’ve sat through. Even the movie is self-aware of the fact and makes a quick jab at itself at the expense of its merch enterprise. Even by “grownup movie” standards, the action sequences hold up pretty well. Other reviewers have their manbuns tied too tight. Sure, the humor was toddler level, but basic plot structure, vehicle porn and such worked just as fine as in any given Fast and the Furious movie.

My 6-year-old was sick so I hoped this one was going the cheer him up, but it was a bit of a hit and miss. Sometimes he was watching giving it his full attention, but he would gradually drop out more and more, and by the time it was over he'd given-up and didn't even notice it had finished. Felt like just a series of minor missions like the TV-show with a terrible key plot stringing them together. Didn't need to do a movie if this was all they were going to deliver.

Does exactly what it sets out to do: Entertains the youngest cinema goers with a true to the concept adaptation of the TV show.
