One tired gag after another

The first half at the worksite is funnier than the second half's drunken antics, but on the whole it's still quite solid comedy.

it works, but it's a bit uninspired. chaplin did a pretty good job with the hangover scenes, but i thank him for making this a short, i wouldn't have made it through another hour of this stuff.

The worksite pieces worked well together, the second part is less entertaining, though the 5 a.m meeting with his wife is wonderful.

Chaplin's final short is a bit low key, but he's in good form and there are some clever bits. It's nice to see all those surplus foam bricks from Keystone days finally put to a non-violent use for once.

I'm sure there is a simple explanation for the bricklaying scene, but it's one of the most magical things I've ever seen. I also really like the unwinding scenes set at night, especially the drunken barflies singing together and getting caught in the rain. The nagging wife stereotype isn't great but hey, things were different 100 years ago.

The gags with the bricks and the elevator are excellent and overall this is an amusing short, yet it's also rather uneven, a fact made all the more obvious due to the two-act structure.

Mildly amusing--the bricklaying scene is good, especially the elevator gags. And I appreciated some of the things at his house and with his wife--the bathtub and the exchange of money, especially. But overall, it's pretty uneven.
