Peaches

At times intriguing but ultimately pretentious drama made compulsively watchable thanks to the performances of its leads; Weaving and McKenzie are terrific, and then-newcomer Lung is also top-notch playing a quite difficult character in many respects. The strengths of the performances do sustain the film, as it unfortunately grows a little too sordid in its mid-section; fine cinematography and a convincing evocation of small-town Australia are also definite assets.
