A rewatch may happen one day, but this was such a disappointment. So many influences - Lynch certainly - and moments that try too evoke a theme of existential dread, but it tries to hard with its fantastical images without ever reaching a deeper message or a deranged power.

I can barely remember this film, but I recall that this reminded of Roy Andersson's films.

A constant barrage of strange and unsettling images that, while they may lack the insight of something like a Roy Andersson film, aren't likely to disappoint anyone who prefers their movies show them something they've never seen before.

In many respects textbook "Cinema of Damnation" festival bait (think Tarr, Bartas etc.) but somewhat perversely presented as a (pseudo) comedy, so it almost reads as either a sly self-parody of eastern European arthouse miserablism, or as the broadest, most unsubtle allegory this side of Bunuel. As with Ounpuu's first film Sugisball, this doesn't ever feel particularly original per se, yet he manages to present these ideas in a less self-consciously severe manner than his humorless peers.

Bleak black comedy about a middle aged manager whose life turns upside down while experiencing a profound mid life crisis. There are many prickly humorous moments that poke fun at the absurd materialism of modern society ala Roy Andersson, and the B+W photography certainly emphasises the stark nature of the character's impoverished environment, but the film never rises above its influences(Lynch, Andersson, Tarr and Kaurismaki, in particular) to become a singular work in its own right.

A long and boring one. Very "Belatar-esque". Very surreal. Very "anythinghapenning".
