Penny Serenade

A touching story played out extremely well by grant and dunn. The use of music to move the narrative was interesting and worked well. The ending was an abrupt hollywood bow that was too popular in the 40s. I could have aceppted the ending if another 15 minutes was given to show the progression of grief for grant and dunns characters...rather than have them suddenly happy again, seemingly ignoring a major loss without having recovered from it correctly

This film had a good story, but I didn't feel like it went as far as it could have with the character's emotions, and the tragedies that affected their lives could have been more vivid for the audience.

Astonishingly dull - not even a Cary Grant/Irene Dunne team can elevate it. George Stevens' direction reminds me of why Welles was needed to change everything in American filmmaking.

A sentimental unrealistic fantasy -- it hangs on moments of coincidence and emotional appeals to bureaucracy of the sort that do not work out in real life. Dunne puts in a good acting job, at times, though, especially the fortune-cookie scene.

Sensitive, sweet. Grand and Dunne work very well together, and Grant, delivering one of his most moving performances, is surprisingly vulnerable here.

Sempre gosto da direção sempre elegante do Stevens, mas isso aqui é dramalhão demais para o meu gosto, mesmo tendo simpatia por certo tipo de melodrama a mão pesou demais aqui, especialmente se levarmos em conta as parcerias anteriores divertidas de Grant e Dunne. What a melodrama Jesus Christ, I thought this was going to be a charming and sad story but god I couldn’t stand Cary Grant´s character, the emotional moments feel so manipulative and have no impact, the pace is boring and I didn’t like that ending

Cary Grant & Irene Dunne in a tearjerker which in a manipulative way touches the right buttons. Especially if you're a parent, recognizing all the fears of dealing with a baby for the first time and trying your best to give it a good home. Grant earned a Academy Award nomination for his role, and he's good. Him and Dunne had a good thing going for a few years there. Might not be the most essential of their films, but it's a fine one if in a mood for an old fashioned parenting drama.

The conclusion is just idiotic, but the rest is fairly enjoyable.
