Good thing I didn't read the summary before seeing the movie.

In which Carlos Saura argues that fascism turns men into unhinged lunatics with no real outlet for their repressed desires. Comparisons to VERTIGO are apt.

Takes Hitchcockian sexual repression/tension to its breaking point. Perverted last act

A strange ride--the dedication to Buñuel at the end makes sense--dealing with obsession and repression. López Vázquez is excellent as the sad-sack X-ray technician. Chaplin, clearly dubbed, in 3 roles, in and out of blonde wigs (like in "Stress - es tres - tres"), is especially affecting as his assistant Ana. Filmed in Cuenca, it looks great, thanks to Luis Cuadrado...I've wanted to go there for ages. Among many odd touches: while drawing Ana's bath, he whistles Schumann's Rhenish Symphony (?).

Pronto, agora eu tenho que beber Peppermint Frappé. Tem um bom motivo para esse filme ter sido dedicado ao Buñuel e ele é visível por todo o canto: fetiches e mais fetiches! Box Obras-primas do Cinema Carlos Saura.
