Perfect Strangers

Nonsensical but strangely enjoyable. What seems at first to be a more or less generic plot soon turns in odd directions that are really quite unconventional. Helped by a very likeable cast, even though all characters are a little thinly drawn. For most audiences, final opinion will depend on their willingness or otherwise to accept the film’s changing tones and increasingly silly narrative convolutions. For myself, I can at least credit the intention to genuinely surprise and charm the viewer.

It's Stockholm Syndrome on a solitary island off the coast of New Zealand, starring a jaded, past-her-prime fish-n-chips monger and a frozen Sam Neill. Really nothing to write home about, as it only proves what we already knew: Sam Neill is a better actor when working from inside the confines of everyday household appliances.
