Perfumed Nightmare

Incredible, poetic, political, garbage and masterpiece! This is one of those simplest and yet most complex movies. Tahimik oscillates between third world and the first, with the ease of a dream structure and his camera travels through contrary attitudes like cinéma-vérité and magical realism. If subaltern could speak this would be the closest it could get I guess, sincere, imperfect, naive yet rebellious.

I might be being a bit unfair to this movie mainly because I'm not sure if the movie was supposed to have this atrocious dub or if it was originally in Tagalog and then dubbed but the goofy, unfunny, piss poor dub killed this for me.

A parody of capitalism, parodic in the most bizarre sense. Certainly it is subversive.

This is one of those Important movies about colonialism that just kind of bored me. The dub is bad--unsure if it was originally that way. It's not terrible, and there are some really interesting sequences, but not enough for me.
