This film has some slow moments but the script does have several interesting and surprising moments. Kristen Stewart does a good job in the lead role. Overall I would recommend this film.

I could do without the supernatural stuff but it works well as a portrait of a lonely, grief stricken young woman - Stewart gives a fine performance, and it's competently made.

Loneliness and uncertainty are not the easiest states to capture on film without making the end product a wee bit boring and, to be sure, Personal Shopper isn't exactly edge of your seat stuff. It's tagged as "drama, suspense/thriller, horror" and while it's kind of all those things, it's also the kind of langorous, endearingly odd (yet never, ever quirky) experience that washes over you, weirdly pleasant in its darkness.

Spiritualism need not include ideology or faith. The film is antithetical to these tenets; just as the protagonist espouses doubt in her own clairvoyance, the ambiguities of this genre-amorphous thriller string the viewer along, eliciting anticipation, interpretation, and then pulling the rug out from any sure-footed conclusions. Take comfort, or don't, in possibilities. Stewart is perfectly attuned to this grief-stricken, alienated role, and Assayas directs a sleek, couture vision of modernity.

Assayas offers a reflection on western society's materialism by focusing on a character that (mostly) believes she has a connection to the spiritual realm. Many of the plot details are little more than MacGuffins, means by which Maureen's character is further revealed and developed. And while Assayas concludes on a note of decided ambiguity, it is hard to forget that he already seems to have tipped his hand a number of times.

So much to say, but I won't. Personal Shopper is bad. What a dreadful story. Fashion underworld in Paris? You never see antyhing of Paris, at all. And the clothes are such a small part of this movie. It doesn't work. Neither does Stewart, who again creates an inapproachable character here. If she wanted to achieve that, she did a great job. 28/100.

Not for nothing but post-Twilight Kirsten Stewart has been amazing. She's once again terrific in this film and she makes this an intriguing watch. The story is also not too bad, but it just seems a little confused in terms of where it wants to go and that ultimately leads to its downfall. The build-up is great and it keeps you entertained but it doesn't quite have the impact that I hoped it would.

I didn't really buy it... Assayas seemingly wanted to say something about the impersonality of electronic communication, thereby drawing parallels to the mediums of old, but text message sequence irritated more than anything. Stewart is engaging but the frequent genre shifts never lets the viewer settle into watching her.

Atmospheric mixture of drama and horror which will no doubt disappoint those looking for only one or the other. It could have benefited from a clearer focus and shorter run time, but still managed to keep me entertained. I liked the way it mixed horror elements with a commentary about our times, and making technology a big part of it. The FX are used sparingly but effectively. K-Stew does a fine job and should be applauded for selecting roles like this and bringing more attention to them.

Stylish, and there are hints of a couple good movies in here (either a chilling psychological character study-see Maureen realizing she took home the jewelry bags-or a moody modern ghost story-see the edge-of-your-seat final scene with a great last line) but there's also a bad one (see the monotonous texting thriller), and the good ones come and go and never tie together in a clear enough manner to build any manner of suspense. As it is, it's frustrating and comes off as a tad pretentious.

An art house ghost story that commits to questioning but not seeking answers to themes of grief, alienation, and the loss of the spiritual self in the modern age. Its many unresolved plot threads trend more toward the compelling than the annoying, and the ways it toys with audience expectations make for a wholly unique horror-adjacent experience, even as some of the dialogue threatens to render the psychological underpinnings a touch overbearing. It's refreshing, if ultimately unfulfilling.

senenin gizli kahramanlarından. öyle sakince açılıyor, sürükleniyor ve paslaşıyor ki film sonrasında sanki iyi çekilmiş öylesine bir şey izlemiş gibi hissederken yavaş yavaş zihinde demleniyor. metaforları çok özel şeyler olmasa da akıllıca kullanıyor, hiçbir şeyi fazlaca yapmıyor. assayas uzak bulduğum bir yönetmenken son iki filmiyle nüanslı ve ilgi çekici şeyler başarıyor. stewart community'deki nicolas cage şakasını anımsatmayı bıraktı zamanla.
