Perversion Story

Begins as a stylish and sleazy, albeit braindead, variation on Vertigo then abandons all psychology, no matter how feeble, to focus on the 'mystery' and plot twists that are hardly plausible yet are sometimes entertaining. The gear shifting keeps it unpredictable, and it makes great use of late 60's San Francisco. Overall, it's certainly one of Fulci's finer (re: coherent) storytelling efforts, but it's probably too restrained for its own good, especially as it loses momentum in its final act.

Lucio Fulci #3

Surprisingly restrained early giallo from Fulci which is closer to a Hitchcock inspired thriller than Fulci's later gorefests; there's only one scene at the morgue that reminded me of his later films. It does have a surprising amount of nudity which sets it apart from other thrillers of the same period. It's a bit overlong, and the documentary style ending was a bit bland way to close the film, but for once the story is quite solid and the film benefits from actual U.S location shooting.
