Inoffensive film that takes a slightly darker tone compared with the first, though it loses its countryside charm. Being in the city just isn't as believable. I'll watch the 3rd one. Fav scene: casting shade on posers at the farmer's market who dress like farmers.

In admitting that I enjoyed this more than the first, I also must acknowledge that I gave the first one a bad rap for, among other things, "being too meta". I now look at that as a feature, not a criticism. The "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" scene might be the best scene in film in 2021. Having no kids in my theatrical viewing this time, I don't have their reaction to measure against, but I was always engaged and laughed plenty. A kids movie that manages to serve many masters. Sign me up for PR3.

I think it's just a slightly better version than the first, which I'm totally okay with. I have a bunny bias so I just like seeing bunnies, even if they're animated, but this was really funny. Sure, not all the jokes worked, but even when they didn't I was so caught up in the breezy and fun nature of it that I didn't care. The script must have been so much fun to write because it incorporates so many elements from different genres, logic be damned. I didn't care, I loved it.

A solid sequel that retained the magic of the original without resorting to same old same old. A lot of new jokes and a good story. Loved it.

I thought that this was actually a bit better than the 1st film. Peter is not quite as irritating this time, and moving the story away from the garden allows more variety. There are some self-ironic/meta bits about selling out - and again a Vampire Weekend song.

Smug and snide follow-up is at least marginally better than Part 1 simply due to its lesser reliance on sentimentality, otherwise pretty much same song, second verse - Byrne and Gleeson once again pitch their performances at bad, hammy pantomime-level, with a fine voice cast essentially doing the same. A noisy and frenetic tone (especially towards the finale) doesn't help matters.

Cute family time, even if they were just as guilty of the commercialism as the subplot was.

It’s a significantly more tolerable affair that the first film, with a likeable dash of self-awareness, but it’s still not great overall. Will Glucks interview with Mark Kermode is well with checking out.

Peter Rabbit 2 is just as obnoxious as the 1st film. Almost every joke abuses the rule of 3, being repeated in a row, and it very quickly becomes exhausting. Most of the narrative gimmicks are used again, though the self-awareness in the fourth-wall breaks is a mild improvement, which is quickly marred by hypocrisy underpinning the entire plot. Gleeson is alright in this one, but I had forgotten how much I dislike the rest of the cast. A few decent moments, but not enough to make it a good film.

Lacks the energy from the first movie though still acceptable company.

It's a sweeter, more grounded, more reasonable take on the same source material the first one ravaged - and it's aware that the first one ravaged that source material, with all the meta winks to executive meddling. A surprisingly solid and fun film that even takes some time to confirm it also knows James Corden is annoying as hell.

First good movie with James Corden? This feels like the director/writer took the criticisms of the first film and decided to just make a fun silly family film with bigger ambitions and better jokes. For example, they decided to go meta and criticise things from the first film and make fun of itself. The film has more style, more characters and jokes to bounce around on, and more locations and action pieces to keep things interesting. For what it sets out to do as a sequel, it's pretty decent.
