Good suspenseful horror flick which is fairly well made and acted, especially in the first half of the movie. Once the monster is revealed it loses a bit, otherwise could have been a great movie.

This is a weird film. The screenplay has some original ideas but the characters in the film were not very likeable. It is hard to get excited by the action because of the uninteresting characters. The actors try their best but the movie just does not really work for me.

Starts off intriguing, but regresses into something nearly unwatchable.

Phantoms is good at the beginning, but having a solid yet unspectacular opening third and a dull and not scary final two-thirds doesn't amount to a worthwhile viewing experience. You can see better versions of this movie, as it's basically another monster copying the Thing or the Blob, except with philosophical questions raised and then forgotten about. If the premise interests you, go read Dean Koontz novel and forget about the film.

It doesn't seem to even follow its own rules, and the nebulous powers of the Monster seems to be "whatever the story requires."
I wish there was anything good to say about the second half of this movie, but it's really just bad.

This one is a guilty pleasure. It's actually an old-fashioned type of sci-fi action/thriller. Dialogue isn't the greatest, but it's fun with decent special effects.

This film starts off really well, with a great setting and creepy atmosphere. Unfortunately the second half of the films seems to have been directed by George Lucas in disguise, as it quickly becomes a naff, cgi based, daft-a-thon. Nobody is "da bomb" here, but watch out for Liev Schreiber as a creepy deputy!

Dean Koontz novels should be adapted even less often than King's work.

After years of wondering if Affleck really was the bomb in Phantoms yo, the answer is definitely not. This is just a retarded hodgepodge of elements from other horror movies...with Peter O'Toole. This can't be what Koontz imagined when writing this.

Meh. Lame book turned into an even lamer movie. (I don't think lamer is an actual word, but this movie inspired me to make it up).

It's rare that a novel and its movie adaptation attempt to outdo each other in how terrible they can be, but this is a perfect example. Koontz's original story was hackneyed, derivative and predictable. The same can be said of the movie, except that it also happens to star Ben Affleck. This should not be interpreted as an asset.

Pretty spooky at first, some decent acting is turned in by the younger sister & weirdo turned villain, then we fail to be scared by the dog or interested in the solution. The special effects are disappointing at best, but the bodies are okay.

A goofy, cheesy, predictable film with a puffball ending. Peter O'Toole, why? Your talent is wasted.

Too bad this wasn't better, it's Koontz' best story imo.
