A loving parody of the 80s and that decade's youth culture - the fun atmosphere present throughout is a product of the director's urge to poke fun but also join in and be as dorky as possible. The movie features a decent cast and touches base with classic teen works of the era such as Karate Kid, Ferris Bueller and 90210. The script succeeds on all fronts; it is not hugely ambitious, but the random jokes and unique creative moments put it on a par with modern classics like Napoleon Dynamite.

The stilted acting of these teens and the sometimes randomness of scenes gave this a Napolean Dynamite meets Degrassi High vibe. Kudos to the director and his crew for capturing the 80's aesthetic, right down to the signs and billboards on the boardwalk (unless Ocean City has been permanently frozen in 1985, and I'm the last to know) I severely wanted to punch that obnoxious ginger lard ass in the head until my hand broke. Also, nice touch using the "Friends" song from Miami Connection.

So out of sync with current trends that its low-key dorkiness is almost a revelation. Still rather pointless though.

The one girl being like addicted to sugar is so convoluted it almost works. Just too nostalgic

Subtle teens comedy with acceptable plot holes to suspend disbelief. Incredible mise en scene, costumes and make up, oldschool music, and grainy film stock to relive the golden life of the 80s. Impressive acting by all the casts to keep me pumped throughout the film.
