Incomprehensible and self-indulgent letdown by Yu Lik-wai. Really, nothing special in any way. It was cool to see Joe Odagiri speak Mandarin and Portuguese though.

I have a feeling that version released on home video is butchered beyond wishes of the director. IMDB list two hour version, as well as one and a half hour that I saw. Story is hardly comprehensible, visual style is as good as expected (even though Yu Lik-Wai never films movies that he directs), but cinematography without a good story, or rather with bad story in this case, is not worth much.
