Tupac outperforms Janet. That's about it.

Singleton's sophomore picture is often confused--it's an almost episodic affair with many elements that don't quite culminate in a cohesive fashion--but Janet and Tupac impress with their performances and chemistry, the soundtrack and poems by Angelou are great of course, and there's a definite soul to the film.

When a film's cast and its soundtrack are essentially the same lineup, you've got problems.

Up its own ass. The only redeeming aspect is the photography in the outdoor scenes. The first sign that John Singleton wasn't as good as we thought.

Saw this eons ago when janet jackson was doing better. This soundtrack is great. 2Pac holds his own in this performance too. Nothing amazing but he didn't embarress himself.

People get very mad very easily in this and then people forgive them even more easily and I don't get why. All of this is silly and unnecessary. Janet and Tupac turn in decent performances but everything in this is so elementary yet thinks it's so much more

You have two of the most charismatic figures (Tupac and Jackson) and you put them in a mail truck with Regina King - what's not to love? This obviously doesn't hit as hard as Singleton's first outing, but it still has some good material especially when it comes to gender roles in young black society. You know what also hits hard? Janet Jackson's smile.
