How can you not enjoy a movie where the female love interest has the shortest hair in the whole cast? Patrick Swayze is some sort of B-movie god. Every damn movie he's in has a terrible, terrible premise and always ends up being worth the effort. He wants the ultimate rush. Damn it, he's the legitimately cool version of Bill and Ted.

This film shows nearly a full butthole. Johnny Utah is in the pantheon of all-time great film names. Despite living nowhere near a surfable beach, I have adopted Swayze's philosophy on life and have started carrying a surfboard around.

At the end of the day, you'll look back on Point Break, and you'll really want to tell people you liked it. You will. I swear. However, this little voice in your head is going to kick in and tell you to shut up. This is common sense. Listen to it. Keep the fact that you like this movie to yourself.

Bodhi, this is your fucking wake-up call man. I am an F, B, I, Agent! That's good times. It's a great movie despite the horrible acting and plot that didn't make much sense. It's great watching Keanu try to stammer out a line and deal with his knee injury. The character names in this movie are great: Johnny Utah, Pappas, Roach, Babbit, Alvarez, Archbold, and who could forget Tyler?

(2nd viewing) Over-the-top escapism, amped up with the most awesome line delivery I've seen. Reeves, what with his inexplicably appealing charisma, was born to play Johnny Utah (hah, Johnny Utah...). The story is ridiculous but Bigelow clearly knows how to direct an engaging action scene. Did I mention it also stars Gary Busey, John C. McGinley and Tom "out of the fucking blue" Sizemore?

Point Break is over-the-top in so many ways, but despite the cheesy dialogue, mediocre fight scenes, and slightly unbelievable characters, there's an ambiance that makes the film enjoyable. This is evident during the moments when Reeves is part of the gang, doing extreme sports or partying, where the score conveys a sense of calmness. Reeves and Swayze have a similar dynamic to deNiro & Pacino in Heat (1995) though less intense. Silly, but still quite watchable 30 years later.

Everything about this movie is ridiculous but yet it's strangely compelling. Is it Patrick Swayze? He does make a great and nuanced villain in this movie. Is it the sunset beach setting? The skydiving sequences? It's difficult to pin down what makes it good. It's still one of the most memorable 90's action flicks and this is one of those movies that seems to capture the genre and the time really well. Keanu Reeves is a ham but he's perfect for this. Coke addled Busey makes his appearance too.

Irony does not exist in this movie, and it's that much better for it. This is an earnest exploration of a man's struggles between a button-down FBI lifestyle and living on the edge (which ultimately comes down in favor of the former). Every absurd detail in this film only serves to make it more entertaining. It's a beautifully shot love letter to the "endless summer" the characters never shut up about.

(On re-watch after ~15 years) You can't oversell how much fun this movie is. There are more great one-liners than in Arnold's whole catalog, which is damn impressive. And who would have thought, in 1991, that Kathryn Bigelow would go on to win an Oscar and follow it up with another Best Picture nomination?

Though the movie isn't deep or enlightening at all it's certainly not disappointing. I'll admit I was expecting some mediocre action fare but Point Break is indeed a memorable action flick with some really impressive action and some great lines. Sure it's a bit goofy to combine surfing with bank robbing but Bigelow manages to get some stellar shots together making all of them great to watch.

The chase scene is good, and everything else is mediocre or bad. I expected the banter to be livelier, yet Swayze and Reeves feel like they're responding to someone off-camera despite being right in front of each other. I guess a lot of people like this ironically?

Hahaha, what a great time! Someone said it gets better after Hot Fuzz and that's probably true. It's got a dumb premise... surfing and bank robbing, but if you can accept the fact that it is ridiculous than you can have a good time. Keanu works on one note: fantastically over the top! On a serious note, I did like the idea of bank robbers being Ex-Presidents and there could have been great commentary there if this movie wasn't so cheesy.

A delightful throw-away of a film. Reeves' terrible acting doesn't bring it down in fact it somehow improves on the so-so plot. He seems like an awkward child who's given the responsibility to look after the dog. Swayze is believable as an ageing hippy and Busey actually does well as the surly "mentor".

Exhilarating popcorn movie which succeeds brilliantly on all fronts -- perfectly cast, thrilling action scenes, wonderful cinematography (especially for the underwater and skydiving scenes). Director Bigelow also seems to be attempting a sly send-up of the machismo actioners of the 80s -- the film's larger-than-life characters and confrontations are ridiculously overdone at times, but the film works both as subtle send-up and a great action movie in its own right.

"Young, dumb & full of cum"- perhaps the most perfect description of Keanu ever, and he lives up to it by getting gloriously dumb here. It's Kathryn Bigelow & co. who slip the smarts into this picture; from superb use of setpieces (the multi-purpose lawnmower) to the understated bits of the script (note the revelations of Keanu's final scene as they apply to his original cover story), and mostly an awe of the natural world, from the enormous sound of waves to the gorgeous skydiving landscape.

Surprisingly good considering the premise. Literally everyone in the film is pretty much perfect for the roles they take, and the story is cheesy yet somehow riveting thanks to the pacing, use of action sequences (the extended chase most notably), and the writing. The film loses a lot points I would have given it for the forced Swayze-Reeves bromance and the ending, which made me roll my eyes so hard that I went temporarily blind.

Moronic machismo made by a woman, so it's assumed that it serves as a critique or running commentary. Nope. The film is dumb, and the style is basically ripped off from Tony Scott. Bigelow does execute action well, but Reeves is terrible, and his conflict with Swayze is just silly. A pure product of its time, it gets by on nostalgia alone, and Busey is always good for a laugh.

Point Break is one of my all time favourite action films. The script is undeniably awful and this is up there with Top Gun for cheese and camp moments. But for all out mayhem and mindless enjoyment Point Break ticks all the boxes. Keanu Reeves' performance feels like a parody of his career, but the true to form Patrick Swayze is as cool as ever. Bigelow's solid direction and brilliantly captured set pieces make up for the dumb moments. Surfing, bank jobs, shoot outs and sky diving. Awesome.

Top badass moment? Keanu telling his boss he caught his first tube; well, we all remember our first time on the London Underground, don't we? This is meant to be a film about surfing, but the Internet doesn't get mentioned anywhere. It really rips off the dialogue from Hot Fuzz too. Not that I'm bothered, as there was so much testosterone leaking out of the screen that my penis has actually grown in size; can't wait to watch it on Blu-ray now. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

I want to commend this for being a cops and robbers story with no real villains, until it cowers away from any interesting moral ambiguity by cementing the bad guy in his role as a cop killer and kidnapper of the good guy's love interest. The silly text and performances would be less tolerable if this film wasn't so unabashedly outrageous. In all things, with gusto. I love how evocative it is of a southern Californian milieu, and whoa, that skydiving sequence is unexpectedly capital-C Cinema.

Seen: 2. I forgot just how silly and unhinged this movie is. It's sort of like Top Gun in its unashamed cheesiness, and Lethal Weapon for its complete disregard for police procedures. Action Keanu comes with tactical firearm training, skydiving gear, a surfboard, and karate chop action. Post-accident Busey comes with a new lease on life. The film felt as if it was trying too hard to be taken seriously, but with its over-the-top silliness felt flat because of that. The surfing scenes, which take a decent amount of screen time, were very confusing. The camera angles kept changing all the time and I had no idea who was who at these scenes. Apart from that, I would say the film is around the mediocre level at best, but has Patrick Swayze who was great, so that's fine.

Rewatch. Rifftrax 40/100. There's some excitement but most of it comes from making fun of the premise and the plot. The romance was so bad, especially Petty shooting near Reeves in the middle of the night (and why didn't he hide his badge?) and magically forgiving him since they're soulmates. What happens to Reeves after the bank robbery so that he's allowed to stay on the FBI, even though this was his first assignment? Fav scene: 1st surfing when Reeves fell into the water gave me flashbacks.

Rare example of a great director and perfect cast triumphing over a silly script. Bigelow's framing, often wider and grander in scope than than blunt, claustophobic '80s action ever dared dream of, makes every action sequence fresh and captivating. Splashes of bold pastels in the 1990-ish clothes and cars often draw the eye and almost make me miss all that obnoxious color, and a bouyant, often pretty soundtrack (again, big change from Carpenter et al.) fits right in. It's beautiful fun.

The characters in Point Break are flippant idiots. Their moral codes get thrown to hell when any kind of new, plot enabling notion crosses their senses. Life is given equal regard. By the time you realize Gary Busey is still semi-cross-eyed, dead on some airport tarmac the recently freed, poorly cured, night-gown wearing hostage is attempting to let Keanu drop in amidst the twilight hours of a dusty Mexican desert. That's what it's all about Amigo. Enjoyed the Reaganomics reference though.

'Point Break' is overall fairly entertaining in a car crash sort of way! Reeves is just awful beyond words, and the rest of the cast are not much better. The final sequences and ending are completely unsatisfying, as Bigelow decides that the best way to deal with most characters personal stories is too simply kill them off. Littered with faults and far too long as most of the film is filled with body doubles surfing or jumping out of airplanes, 'Point Break' is average at best.
