As with Taboada’s ‘Hasta el viento tiene miedo’ the film certainly shows a general social malice and personal cruelty between its characters, but the direction is also listless and bland. The two 11-year-old leads are excellent, especially our ‘witch’, and you both love and hate their abuser-victim power dynamic, kept in isolation - there are no adults, here. It honestly doesn’t seem like it’s coming together… then the end happens, and I had to wipe my jaw off the floor. Audible audience gasps.

Beautiful story flattened by mediocre direction, but touching nontheless. One remarkable choice to edit out most of the adult actors and leave two great child-actresses to each other.

A very unassuming movie that is carried almost entirely by two young girls. The story is about a new girl in town named Flavia. She meets a classmate named Veronica who claims to be a witch. Flavia doesn't believe Veronica at first but as time goes on Veronica begins to play tricks on Flavia, leading her to believe that witches really do exist. The existence of witchcraft in the film is left rather ambiguous for the movie until the end where we are left with a jawdropping ending.

If you go into this expecting a scary horror movie you are likely to be disappointed. However, it works very well as a child's point-of-view movie about childrens' belief/make-belief in the supernatural (and the harm this can potentially do).

I had some hope that this might be an undiscovered masterpiece, but no. Slightly creepy but never really scary. Practically nothing happens until the shocking ending. I liked how they never showed any adult faces (with one or two dramatic exceptions), that was a nice touch.
