Apparently Bill Clinton watched six Police Academy movies back to back with his daughter a few years ago and she's still recovering.

The only Police Academy film with any laughs at all, it's still mostly not good. The bit with 70s porn star Georgina Spelvin blowing Commandant Lassard behind the podium was pretty funny though.

I thought I would hate it because it glorified the police. Turns out I also hated it because it was terribly misogynist, homophobic and transphobic. and because it wasn't funny. and because none of the characters had meaningful arcs or growth in any way. +2 points for making 1980s Toronto look cool.

Nobody knew this would spawn more terrible offspring than Kris Jenner at the time, but that's no excuse for just being a lazy comedy. Boobs aren't jokes!

Another one of those series where I know I've seen at least two or three of the movies, but I have no idea which ones. In this case I couldn't care less which ones I've seen or not. Even at the time -- at a pretty young age, that is -- I remember thinking this stuff was mostly unfunny bullshit.

Checks all the boxes for 80s comedies (Stripes, anyone?): homophobia, female exploitation, rape-it's all there and it's all played up (unsuccessfully) for laughs. There are a few successful attempts at humour thanks to the misfit troublemaker vs. stingy authority figure dynamic but they're scattered and the plot provides no substitute momentum (Hooks' side arc aside: "Don't move, dirtbag!"). Likeable side characters (gentle Hightower, intense Tackleberry, among others) keep it watchable.

hey, i was 12 or 13 and it was a cheap way to get some nudity. and, as much of an asshole as guttenberg was, there was enough juvenile humor from tackleberry, hightower, proctor and the rest to make it worth it at the time. plus, i have always had a thing for kim cattrall.

A lot of gags miss and the writing is questionable at times; the notion some guy gets into a healthy relationship with a woman after sexually harassing her is absurd, but there were enough gags that worked that keeps the film entertaining. The blowjob gag and the gay bar shit being particular highlights.

Everyone loves to say they hate Police Academy, but the original and at least three of the sequels are very funny for what they are: formula comedy. Besides, you know you loved the Blue Oyster scene. In fact, you are hearing the music just thinking about it.

It's a stupid, fun, 80s comedy. It's enjoyable for what it is, an underdog story placed in the setting of a police academy. There is no deep message, it's pretty formulaic, the story is pretty absurd, but it's a fun ride. Characters are likable, but confined to their stereotypes and not very deep. If you're in for something mindless you could do far worse.

I didn't find the Human Beatbox to be that great, but I think I just built it up too much. I think if I had watched this back when it came out I would have had a little more respect for the film. Guttenberg's back and forth's with the instructor had moments of humor. Again happy I saw it, but not going to be rushing out to see the sequels anytime too soon

A somewhat late entry in the well-worn genre of the slobs vs. snobs comedy, and not one that especially shines by the density or originality of its jokes. Some performances elevate the material (and some... don't), and, by and large, it remains broadly innocuous through to the end apart from a couple missteps, which is more than can be said about many of the era's outings.

The jokes are crude and in many cases in 'bad' taste but nonetheless funny. The plot is ridiculous but is a very effective vehicle for the various characters to 'do their thing' (and for the most part to make the audience laugh). A very memorable film for me as I watched it many times as a young child (I had an older brother and sister, so I was exposed to 'adult' content in films at a young age). I can still quote it to this day and 'The Blue Oyster Bar' scenes are ingrained in my mind.

The 80's wouldn't be the 80's without this movie. It always pains my heart when I see people on television or in film make fun of Steve Gutenberg. Unless I'm horribly uninformed...he never made any real attempts to be taken seriously as an actor and he was built for the role of Mahoney. I think he's great and he really carried an entire franchise on his back for about five films. I think it's time they made a big-budget re-vamped Police Academy, like they've been doing for films like Rambo.

A good stupid comedy. Police Academy is a product of it's times. A cast of nobodies, filled out with a couple of up and comers, at the time. Steve Guttenberg was likable as Mahoey. The rest of the cast was pretty plain. Bubba Smith did a wonderful job as Hightower. I really enjoyed him as the misunderstood big guy. I like a good stupid comedy and this movie was well within that genre of movies.

This movie is so good you'll want to head out to the Blue Oyster bar to celebrate. I forgot how funny this movie was. Steve Guttenberg was an excellent main character with his snarky antics and the rest of the cast just filled in the movie so perfectly. The incredibly strong and tall "Hightower", Hooks the small squeaky-voiced girl. Kim Cattrall being the sexy minx of a cop and many others. The scene with the podium had me in stitches and it had some heartwarming moments too...

One of the better anti-authoritarian comedies that followed in the wake of Animal House, Police Academy's gets by on the strength of its casting, characters and its charming low brow ambition. While often interpreted as a reactionary response to affirmative action policies under Reagan, the film is ultimately too stupid and far too in love with its oddball characters to function even remotely well on that level. Most importantly, it's still funny, even after all these years.
