Police Story 2 is about 30/40 minutes too long and lacks the astounding fight scenes and brutal choreography of its predecessor. However, like its predecessor and most Jackie Chan films, the action scenes are clever, the humour -- while often quite blunt -- is appreciated, and some of the explosions are fantastic. It blows my mind that a film from 1988 can have better special effects that today's action films... perhaps that's because these effects are special because they are real.

Jackie Chan is back to take down a bunch of terrorists who are using explosives to extort money from Hong Kong business owners. The story is not great, and way too much time is spent on bad comedy (an issue compounded by the awful English dub)....but the fight choreography is amazing stuff. The scraps are lightning fast and incorporate plenty of innovative moves, object manipulation and painful looking stunts. Plus some terrifyingly large explosions.

Like the first movie the plot and characters go nowhere but really slow. Also the stuntwork is a bit less insane although still excellent.

It's not as thrillingly new as the first film, but Chan hasn't lost any of his brilliance for choreographed action/comedy. My issues are mainly the length (20 minutes longer than the first film) and the rather cringe-worthy portrayal of the deaf-mute baddie.

A little plottier, less concerned with comedic relief, and pretty much completely abandoning the self-effacing characterization of Ka-kui. It still features a lot of fun choreography, but even on that front its bravado is less striking. It's just largely missing the personality which made the first film feel so much more special.

The second part in the "Police Story" saga is a bit more ambitious in its storytelling than its predecessor (albeit meandering), but the stunts aren't quite as memorable. Nonetheless, where it lacks the original's brutality, it compensates with more action and visceral drama.

*I watched the dubbed version* Complete with toilet jokes and funny disguises. Bloated and sillier than the first film, but I'll be damned if this is still not 2 hours of exhilarating entertainment. And once again, make sure you watch the closing credits.

I enjoyed this more than the first. The action are more evenly spread out and rather fun to watch and while some of the humour is a bit juvenile most of it is decent enough to set the mood.

Viewed November 22, 2020. The idea that this is lesser than the first one is truly absurd to me. Yes, there's less of a tight balance between comedy and drama, but the added intensity pays off handsomely, and the action scenes are uniformly terrific. Love the park fight. Love seeing Jackie leap between moving cars. All of these incredible physical feats just seem so commonplace when he's doing them.

A marvel of stunts and fight choreographies just like its predecessor, "Ging chaat goo si juk jaap" displays a lot of talent in those fields but not much elsewhere. Thankfully the farcical, slapstick humour has been reduced a little, and some jokes are actually good even without reaching their full potential, however the cartoonish villains, embarrassing dialogues, and cliched plot are still present, and are joined by unnecessary subplots and scenes that just throw the pacing off way too much.

Because of all the difficulties that Chan Ka Kui caused in his previous adventure, he has now been demoted to traffic police. But when the bad guys strike again and just blow up buildings, Chan is called in for help. Until suddenly he is kidnapped.

This is the best of the Police Story films and that's saying something considering the lowest rated on of the 4of5 I've seen rates an 88. Better stunts, better acting, less dull humor.

A tow the line, kind of sequel that does exactly what the first one did, no better no worse. Still decent stunts and action, exactly what you look to Chan for. The entire series is probably worth checking out, there's a reason there are so many of them.

There’s definitely a lot more waiting for them to get to the fireworks factory in this one, but once they do (and how!) it’s just as brilliantly choreographed and shockingly dangerous as ever. Plus there’s way more Maggie Cheung, and that can never be a bad thing.

Enjoyed this more than the first one, even though the enemy with the bombs is a bit over the top, because the story feels a little more interesting here. The sequences like Jackie directing Traffic and the scene where his team trails the bombers are fantastic in particular. I also dig that this one is more about his relationship with his girl friend.

While not as good as the first one it's still a pretty marvelous sequel and the warehouse finale elevates some of the weaker material.

A little too little action until the end in my view, but as usual Jackie's finale doesn't disappoint. You aren't watching for the story, but for the amazing stunts and clever choreography. If you like explosions you will be satisfied here as well. Also, bonus points for the bloody outtakes. Overall, not quite as good as the first film.

A classic Jackie Chan movie. I'm not going to pretend I look at Jackie Chan films objectively; I have a strong nostalgic connection that makes me love them more than they might deserve. But even so, a first time viewer is bound to enjoy the legit stunt work that's dropped in throughout this film, even if the acting leaves them disconnected with the characters.

Interesting in that it feels like a better overall cop movie than the first Police Story (the scene where they are tailing a bad guy is a particular stand out) but the action is a bit of a step down. A step down for Jackie Chan is still quite excellent in terms of broader cinema, but I can't help but feel like most of these action scenes didn't leave the same lasting impression as the first film.

jackie feels more at home with the comedy beats than the serious ones, either way the plot drags the pacing and take way too long to get to the fireworks factory, literally

Pretty standard 80's Jackie Chan fare - the plot is strictly the stuff of B-movies, but as soon as Jackie starts fighting and / or doing stunts, it transcends to the level of ":-O". The fact that Jackie is dubbed by someone who obviously isn't Jackie is more than a little distracting. However, the credits blooper reel is quite bloody / hilarious this time around.

This sequel probably has the most technical stunts out of any action movie. The warehouse is nearly like an obstacle course full of crazy jumps, falls, and stair stunts that haven't been topped in any movie thus far. Jackie Chan proves again in this movie why he's an action legend.

Comparing this to the original: The stunts may be a little bit daring, but the plot barely picks up anything dangling from before. Still, one isn't going to Jackie Chan films for tightly-scripted plots, and it's something that he wants to explore the boyfriend-girlfriend relationship a bit more (but it doesn't really get very far). It's a fun chop socky film that doesn't really distinguish itself from any others in the genre.

This is a plodding, plot-heavy letdown from the frenetic action joy of its predecessor, but its most exhilarating sequences still have that old school Chan charm. A film that quite literally drives one to ask, "When are they getting to the fireworks factory?"

The sequel to "Police Story" is a generally grimmer film. It's just that the tone is more serious, the fight choreography is tougher and less centered on physical stunts. It's not that any of this is bad, but it feels like Chan not playing to his strengths. It's a great little action flick, but my least favourite of this series.

Instead of the insanely entertaining stunt film in the original, instead we get a standard and very boring cop show plot with a lot of explosions.
