A stunning film of jaw-dropping scope and power. I'm amazed at how well the episodic structure works instead of a traditional narrative. Every scene feels so spontaneous and dynamic (and realistic), there's not a dull moment - the cutting-room floor must have been overloaded. The characters are brilliantly written and performed, combining to show many facets of the human condition (there's nothing quite like a French person kicking off!). Everything works and I want to watch it again right now.

Beneath the daily frustration and occasional perplexity lies a commitment to the kind of work that few dare to take on, which Maïwenn portrays resolutely, framing a day on the job with uncommon force. Their gut-wrenching struggle is fittingly interrupted by moments of divertissements and mutual affection and while the messy editing focuses on each member disorderedly, I found myself closer to the unit as each minute passed. Minor issues such as an ill-fitted ending are ultimately forgiven.

A raw, delicate, realistic and sentimental depiction of a police division responsible for protecting kids -- and punishing who are hostile to them. It's an intimate look, both affective and objective, with some lovely and gripping moments -- this is actually a collection of love stories that happen to be told in a cop drama --, all of them inexplicably finished and solved by an absurd finale.

This isn't really a film. It's more of a hypothetical documentary or pilot for a series. And while it's well put together it's ultimately very shallow.

"Polisse has been compared to The Wire, but beyond a shared interest in the Sisyphean nature of police work, the two are mostly comparable as inverses of each other." - Jesse Cataldo

Messy - some subplots, like the photographer story, could easily be cut - but when it hits it hits.

had a relatively light tv-like vibe to it considering the subject matter, I wasn't feeling it at all. like if Brooklyn 99 was about kids getting molested.

I'm not sure if there's a harder, more sensitive subject to tackle than what this movie takes on and they did it with humanity, sensititivy and, most daring of all, humor.
