One of these days, I will watch it, and it won't be a boilerplate slasher film. I'll keep trying no matter how often I fail.

A nice idea that doesn't really gel. It doesn't help that this is another budget horror movie in which the biggest names in the cast must have been hired for about a day's shooting apiece, and the use of stand-ins at one point is *really* obvious

Entertaining horror flick about kids who throw an all night horror movie marathon, only to start dying one by one. The plot is ludicrous, of course, but the kills are clever, the makeup good, and the movie never takes itself seriously. Although made in 1991, Popcorn feels like an early 80s horror flick, in a good way. Definitely check it out if you want a cheesy, popcorn-munching good time.

Amusing idea, awkwardly executed, though there are some knowing re-creations of vintage b&w B's.

A movie that had a lot of potential but really failed overall. It did have a lot of energy and I think it is because of Tom Villard. Not the best acting job from this cast, but like I said, lots of energy.

Toss another VHS horror movie aisle browsing memory in the garbage. Kinda wish I didnt know this was filmed entirely in Jamiaca it would've made the surprise band scene so much more fun , just pretend you didnt read this. Shitty version of Matinee for a bit and a whole bunch of who gives a shit Tony Roberts wondering what the fuck happened to his career

When it comes to acting, Popcorn delivers a somewhat decent performance from just about every actor. I held Schoelen's performance in a someone higher regard after I found out that she was added to the cast at the drop of a hat, weeks after shooting had already taken place to take over for Amy O'Neill, who dropped out of the lead role. The set was what really made the movie for me, though, that and the concept of the "all night horror-thon" Fun-filled slasher film with little gore or sex.

Simple-minded fun includes some clever fright films-within-the-film and lots of silly terror.

This had a lot of potential but did nothing with it. The movie has a Full Moon feel to it which was a definite plus but it lacks the charm of a Band production. Also, the soundtrack was really obnoxious.

I liked some of the shots and the nods to classic films but the whole cast (and timeline) were so goofy it grated, a bit more 'straight man' (or woman) could've made it bearable. Still, may catch the rest someday.

This deserves a lot more attention than it gets. A fun, lighthearted horror-comedy that plays as a love letter to the genre & B-movies of old, it benefits from a solid cast & pretty well-done effects, on top of a really fun early-90's vibe and a smart script that does a good job of hiding what holes it admittedly does have. The characters are likeable, the story is interesting, & there's a nice variety to the kills that was much appreciated. Give this one a look.

Plus: me deu vontade de rever Matinee do Joe Dante. Box Versátil Slashers Volume 6.

Some excellent prosthetics and fun moments but overall I found it to be a miss. Saw it during Joe Bob Briggs' Halloween special on shudder. 5.0

It had a lot of potential that was wasted with poor performances and that awful dubbing

"Corn"y horror, but it was still fun. It was nice to see homage paid to horror movie gimmicks of the 1950s/60s.

Extremely dated. The soundtrack is cringey as shit and so are the montages and the fashion (outside of the Halloween costumes of course). Movies from the late '80s, early '90s always feel so much more dated than older films. This has got to be the most embarrassing period for pop cultural mores. This is minor, but the villain's name is Lanyard. The word "Lanyard" has no business being in a horror movie. Nothing is less scary than a lanyard.

Was really disappointed with a rewatch of this as I had initially responded quite well with it. This time around I couldn't mesh the horror and the zany tone of the theater employees. Honestly, I'm all about a theater stalker as evidenced by my love of Anguish, but this felt closer to The Concessionaires Must Die! which is not unforgivable, but also not anyone's life goal. As an aside, I often tell people I eat popcorn like an apple, just a huge handful and a bite right into it. I'm an idiot.
