This acting and dialogue are weirdly stilted and the music ranges from TV cop show to grating. This is less a crime Noir film than a low budget police procedural that seems more at home on TV.

A solid bit of procedural business. It does feel a lot like the sort of thing that was big on the radio at the time (and soon enough to be big on TV) with all those straight-laced G-men and T-men and customs agents and so forth getting up to a lot of investigation and a quick bit of action. As the poster somewhat promises, Yul Brenner looms rather large as the one outsized character in this, his film debut. Though they did also manage to fit in a glimpse of Arthur Blake's impersonation act.

This is a good film that slowly builds. The narration is a little bit unnecessary at times but overall I enjoyed the film. If you are a fan of this type of film then definitely check it out.

One of the movies that tried a more realistic look at crime fighting. Almost documentary feel at times. Sadly, it lacked personality. That might sound surprising when I say Yul Brynner was one of the stars. Actually this was his film debut... and he had hair! Might be one of the reasons it took another 7 years before he'd get another movie. He hadn't found *that* look yet. This is decent at what it was attempting, there were far better attempts at this style the previous year.
