If you treat its 30-minute alternate ending as canon, ignore how it's not at all suspenseful despite wanting to be, and play dumb when it comes to its central mystery ... Possession is a mediocre movie. It's not a good one, it's not worth seeing, and it's more likely to bore you than it is to thrill you. It doesn't have good acting, its tone screams "thriller" even when its plot doesn't, and it's a mess whose alternate ending is much better than the one the filmmakers decided to go with.

Could've been great, but the script was lacking and the ending was contrived and dumb. The alternative version is much better. Still creepy, but at least thoughtful. This was just a waste of Lee Pace for me.

Not so interesting. Even ending has nothing surprising.

Possession is a film that fails in its 1st act when it fails to establish its characters (and their relationships) as anything approaching believability. Pace is wasted and Gellar is unimpressive. Apparently there's an alternate ending which (according to Wikipedia) seems better, but I had honestly lost interest in this film before the body-swapping antics. It's a bad film, but at least it's short and not too obnoxious.

I was duped. Interesting story, but it's more of a psychological drama until the end where they tack on a contrived Hollywood ending.

Pleasant to watch but doesn't bring anything new or interesting to the table.

Rating is for the alternative ending (because let's face it - original one throws all character complexity out of the window). The rating is still, as a whole, undeservedly high, but BY GOD. Lee Pace is drop-dead gorgeus. The man acts circles around the rest of the cast. He can go from a fluffy love-struck, awkward sweetiepie to a homicidal psycho with a single twitch of an eyebrow. I'm at awe. He's gorgeous. I mean his acting is. Krhmnm.....

This has the same back story as the movie Birth, so there is nothing really unique or ground breaking in this plot. Sarah Michelle Gellar was adequate but not very inspiring in her performance, while others were less so. It was hard to buy into the story. The music was not great. They really should have done a much better job with the ending, it was abrupt and hurried.
