Larrain attempts to portray long-standing apathy amidst a violent political upheaval. But the end result is so unnaturally fixated on the protagonist's personal obsession that it blurs its own political context in a way that makes it feel only tangential but never essential to the story. In short, Post Mortem is a punishingly slow and hollow character study that doesn't quite achieve a larger social significance despite its aspirations.

Technically effective and affective, this film proceeds slowly, with an important time-shift, to present a metaphor about Chile after Allende. Larrain brings a very 'historical' sensibility to film.

I had hoped this film would show or tell me more about Chile, 1973. We only get a brief glimpse of the aftermath of the coup d'etat in one small hospital. Atrocities, of course. But why the focus on this one ordinary, impenetrable middle-aged man? The final scene, where he's autopsying Allende, has zero impact. It's as if Larrain's camera was in all the wrong places. I would like to understand better why he made the film this way, is it a commentary on the social situation in Chile then?

nisan 2011 - 30. ist. film fest & diktatorluk ile birlikte gelen fasizm dalgasinin tam ortasinda saplantili aski icin cirpinan bir adamin hikayesi. arka fonda degisen sili ile birlikte degisimini izledigimiz karakterin oyunculugu cok guclu. atmosfer cok basarili kurulmus. karakterin filmin son sahnesi ile insanligini da teslim etmesi ve fasizme ayak uydurmasi cok iyi anlatilmis. tony monera'dan daha cok sevdim. iki filmde birbirinin tamamlayicisi dusunulebilinir.
