Postcard

Last movie directed by Kaneto Shindo at age 99! A part reflection on his WW2 service (as in the film the male lead is one of 6 survivors from an original group of 100, so was Kaneto). Despite a high regard shown in IMDB written reviews, to me, this was sterile, predictable and uninvolving on the whole , but maybe that was just me - tho it does realistically echo the effect of WW2 on the Japanese rural poor along with their blind devotion. Competently filmed and acted.
