Pour elle

Good. A school teacher chooses a dangerous path to free his wife from prison. The male lead does a very satisfying portrayal of the distressed husband. This is a rather conventional thriller that suffers somewhat from lax pacing but it has enough thrills and suspense to warrant a viewing. Recommended.

The story and tension build up nicely after kind of a slow start

An effective thriller, supplying classical suspense. Oftentimes exhilarating, even if it is conventional in almost every way.

Pour elle is a suspenseful thriller, one that slowly builds momentum until it's rolling hard and fast enough to crush any criticism one can levy against it. It gives you enough breaks for the drama to work and for you to reflect upon earlier moments, and it contains good performances by all three leading actors. This is a lean, mean thriller that's absolutely worth your time, as long as you speak French or don't mind reading subtitles. You'll be happy you did.

Very good movie. I can understand why the Americans wanted to remake it. Despite of not having seen such remake I guess this original version has more charm. Several critics said it was difficult to believe Russel Crowe would do all those things for the actress, which is not the case with Diane Kruger here. I think this was disrespectful to said actress as the husband doesn't do all the things because of her beauty but because he really loves her. The movie has heart. Cynicism has limits.

The build-up is pretty slow, the wife losing hope in jail while the husband's life slowly falls apart without her. But the third act is a different movie, tense and electrifying, leading to an excellent climax and satisfying ending. A well-made and rewarding thriller.

I think this accurately reflects the difficulties a law abiding citizen would have in making the necessary criminal connections to break his wife out of jail

Lindon is convincing as the husband single-mindedly plotting to free his wife at all costs. The slow start rounds out the characters and makes us fear for them more when the action kicks in. A classy thriller.

Way better than the remake...
