The only thing that should bother now grown fans of the original series more than this limp bastardization is knowing that in comparison, this big budget crap fest is a sparkling jewel to Saban's Japanese rip-off of a turd. If you can't tell, I'm not a fan of either.

If I had to name two tv shows that defined my childhood, DragonBall Z and Sailor Mo... ahem... Power Rangers would sit comfortably at the top of that list. Unfortunately, this revamped adaptation of my favorite childhood superheroes was about as disappointing as that time I bought the Power Morpher at FAO Schwarz, shouted "It's morphin' time!" in front of my hotel mirror, only to receive a call from the front desk asking me to turn the tv volume down. Kimberly is still pretty hot though.

The "Power Rangers" super hero origin story told like a lighter version of "Man of Steel"(2013) meets "Fantastic Four"(2015). This is the movie you get when you take the campy 90's TV show, that was nothing more than a toy commercial that merged recycled Japanese footage with cheap knock-off "Saved by the Bell" filler, and make a more realistic teen drama. Unfortunately, it turned out a boring tonally confused movie struggling to find its audience. The only clear demographic was doughnut fans.

This really wasn't my thing. For one I didn't grow up watching the shows and I didn't know much about the franchise going into this. They try to make you care about the characters and develop them in the movie, but I just couldn't invest myself in any of them. I didn't care about any of them. I also thought that cover of "Stand By Me" was unnecessary and misplaced, I didn't like Elizabeth Banks as a villain and found it to be painfully predictable. To me it was a pretty empty movie.

There's some expectedly weightless CGI battling and kind of stiff, inexperienced acting holding it back, but overall I think this did a better job at both paying tribute to the original property (the moment where "Go Go Power Rangers" plays is pure nostalgic crack right in the vein) while also forging its own unique identity than the new Transformers or TMNT series. I'm definitely up for checking out a sequel.

I'm giving this a generous bump to Serviceable. It's true that this movie loses a lot of the essence of the show. That was probably unavoidable. It's true that a lot of the fight scenes (okay, all of the fight scenes) aren't really all that fun. And it's true that these characters are more modernized and, therefore, a lot less quirky and likable. But what the movie accomplished for this 90's kid was that little nod and pat on the head of, "We know you're in there, buddy". And that was worth it.

I was so proud of the writers/directors to get the kids to their power coins or whatever the hell makes them Power Rangers super fast. Like under 30 minutes. Then the next hour plus of the movie is a crappy training montage leading to a 15 minute fight sequence where they ride around in dinosaurs and don't wear their masks even though the entire plot of the movie is to get them to wear their masks. At least they killed Elizabeth Banks. Fuck her.

Truthfully, I might be biased here because I grew up on Power Rangers, but I thought it was good. A more, gritty and character driven origins story was great for this movie, it gave it a personality that separates it from other 90's shows such as Transformers and TMNT. However the movie is very much about the kids, not the Rangers, and if you can't get behind them, then this movie will drag on forever. The performances were solid, Banks was a little too much, the action was meh. Great start.

That kind of stuff might not bother a slightly balding fan showing up at the theater in a Comic-Con T-shirt. But when you add it to some intense superhero violence, you end up with a combination that could well be a deal-killer for parents of younger, would-be fans--the only other group, frankly, that might potentially find this pic entertaining.

Trigger Warning: Power Rangers was always an entertaining, yet meandering, mess - a second-hand copy of throwaway entertainment, popular almost in spite of itself. So guess what? The movie actually succeeds on its own merits, and then some. Added to the mix is a bit of self fulfillment as wish fulfillment - creating just the minimum needed credibility for its fantasy. But I swear it's like Hollywood released a memo a few years ago saying, "All 'realistic' fantasy films must look like ass."

I thought it would be terrible. I was wrong. I like how they take time building team bonds. And each member is equal here. I remember Red was always leader and bossing others around in original series. Yet mindless bad guys are still not attractive and their motivation is so cliche and predicted. Therefore final act does not payoff.

The new Power Rangers is a movie that takes a long time to get to the point at which fans will enjoy it, forcing them to sit through 90 minutes of tedious teenage drama and bonding in order to get to the suits and action and Zords and monsters. The final half hour is a big-budget reenactment of the TV show, and that's when it's at its best. It's not terrible, but only a quarter of it is anything close to good. But, man, do I want a donut. I was hoping they'd embrace the campy silliness of that show in the movie, and to be fair, at times, they did. But there's still a 'gritty reboot' thing going on that makes the tone feel all over the place. The screenplay is full of clichés. There was a lot of poor direction. I didn't really like any of the main cast, apart from RJ Cyler. They did at least attempt to build their characters, which I appreciated, even if it was derivative of The Breakfast Club.

POWER RANGERS is more about being a teenager than a superhero. That's intriguing on paper, but in practice it's a clumsy but sincere distillation of the youth issues du jour. All the accouterments of Ranger-dom--the suits, the zords, the combat--are treated, in puzzling fashion, almost as an afterthought. As such, the weightless action doesn't stand for anything. It's not campy, or mercenary, or fulfilling; it's just...there. Good old-fashioned teen angst can only carry the film so far.

Wasn't sure I was going to like this movie, but was pleasantly surprised! The heart pumping excitement was felt throughout the movie, and even a true connection between the chosen five. I wonderful enjoyment to even pay to see for the family and for yourself.

Nope. Not even youth sentiment could make me rank Power Rangers higher. I thought the casting wasn't good and the chemistry between them was just not there. I also feel like the story moves too fast to create a proper 're-introduction' to the power rangers. It just wants too much in a short movie. 39/100.

I loved Power Rangers as a kid, so maybe that helped a little to enjoy it. But back then a show lasted 30 minutes. You waited 10 minutes for them to become Power Rangers and for the fight to begin. An 1 hour and 30 mins is a bit too long to wait... *Okay

A flawed movie that needed, from an action standpoint, to take a bit less inspiration from movies like Chronicle and Transformers and more from the show its based on. But its solid cast brings an average movie up quite a bit, to the point where I'd love to see a sequel that took the good writing of the main 5 Rangers and added more Power Rangers style action.

Surprise!! This movie isn't terrible. Not only is it not terrible, it's pretty good. It does a good job portraying the origin story of the Power Rangers while maintaining the fun of the original series. The teenagers with attitude are a diverse bunch of interesting characters and while not all jokes are perfect, the movie is entertaining throughout. Shout out to Elizabeth Banks, who is great as one of the cheesiest villains of all time and Bryan Cranston for adding additional depth to Zordon.

As far as re-launches of old 90s TV shows go, I actually found some enjoyment out of this. Having said that, it's not particularly good. Nostalgia got me through this and I enjoyed Elizabeth Banks going all in on playing the villain. This probably would have benefited from a little bit more of them in Power Ranger mode, rather than just the last quarter of the film, because...is that what we're all here to see?

Equal parts reverent adaptation and self-aware reboot, "Power Rangers" is everything that a fan could ever reasonably ask for: kitschy, free-wheeling, and surprisingly emotionally driven entertainment.

The problem with this movie is fundamental. Everything is just way too convenient and everything happens to fall in place for our protagonists to do exactly everything they need to do. It's all just too perfect. On top of that, the cast is weak and everything is overacted. I mean, I can see Naomi Scott's potential and I'm willing to watch where she goes, but everyone else is just bad. I suppose I'm just tired of films favoring action over substance, but it's always existed and always will.

I grew up with the PR like many children, but I didn't crave anymore PR in my life. The show is actually awful, but as a kid that didn't matter. They did what they had to do here; made it a little darker but with some humour. I actually cared, it was good enough that it isn't just nostalgia fueling it, but I did mark out when "go go Power Rangers" started. I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it. They need to up the coolness of the fighting though if there's a sequel. Weirdly, I'm in.

This film definitely allowed for the audience to connect with the new generation of Power Rangers and it sure did help the ending come off as that much more meaningful. It has genre cliches but it begins and ends with the characterization of these five unlikely heroes . Billy Cranston immediately became my favorite character followed closely by Trini. They were the most realistic and most engaging characters. Rita Repulsa was a great intro villain and I really am hoping for more.

This is the best bunch of cool Hollywood actors depicting high schoolers this year. What coke snorting exec wanted to reboot this silly ass franchise? It's two hours of bonding between genuinely irritating people with some mighty morphin' time at the end with a heavily made up elizabeth banks wearing a kinky brothel outfit. The action and emotional scenes are hilariously dumb but yet watchable. I got slightly misty eyed at the trials and tribulations of Billy's difficulty with assburgers.

Takes almost the entire movie to put them in suits, and to build up to that they do a bunch of lame training montages and trite teen bonding. The pay off is also really lame - the original show honestly had a lot more entertaining fight scenes than this movie displayed. Not to mention the laughable one liners such as "Make my monster Grow!" or "GO GO POWER RANGERS" inserted into the movie just to remind you you're watching Power Rangers. It's pretty dumb, but in fairness, it could be worse

I give this movie a lot of credit for how well it is handled. The idea behind this movie is stupid, but it puts together a diverse cast of young actors who I've never seen before and they give really good performances. The screenplay is good and it doesn't overload the film with action, though there is plenty of that in the last act. I think this move works for a broad audience, kids can enjoy it, young adults who loved the original show can have fun, but it is most directly geared for teens

Telling a superhero origin story with a kind of Breakfast-Club-like setup/vibe/structure is a pretty neat idea, if you ask me. Even though the movie could have done much more with that. And I'm not just talking about it drifting into kitschy pathos and lame action with lame costumes and lame cgi in the third act.

Bland, alright origin reboot of the Power Rangers (2017). Easy going atmosphere with mostly waiting around for them to find themselves. Can't help but I hope one day producers will focus on simply making deadly missions instead of always doing origins and reboots of every superhero, every decade. It's not a TV-series, so just give us a good bad guy for the a heroes to fight! Most of these heroes have been established for decades, so no need to recreate them!

A We Hate Movies movie. It was okay, shockingly. Something I was shocked by, I say SHOCKED was that Elizabeth Banks (a very pretty lady) was allowed to play a non-sexy Rita Rudner (or whatever her name), it would be so easy to just say screw it she'll be a foxy lady now. So, surprising

A 3 minute introduction that makes you cringe when the names Zordon and Rita are said out loud. 35 minutes of angsty teenagers with tedious, clunky exposition. 10 decent minutes with a good adaptation of Zordon and Alpha. 40 more minutes of teenagers and montages. And at this point the 25 minute finale is less a payoff and more an underwhelming relief. The movie isn't terrible, it's just badly directed, lit and edited, and a lot of it is unnecessary. I dug the Tron-esque music though.

It was surprisingly not a bad movie. The setting up is certainly too long and the interesting part too short, but it's not that bad. Some actors are overacting, but well, I spent an entertaining moment and that's good enough.

Actually pretty good, but you have to factor in nostalgia - I did enjoy the first season of the show when I was a kid. Too bad so much of it was filmed in the dark, and half an hour from before the zords show up could have been trimmed but still... I'll definitely watch the sequel.

How this managed to be worse than BOTH of the '90s movies is kind of sad. Those were bad movies, but they were campy fun. This just tried too hard too be edgy and different, had obnoxious product placement, and had so little actual action for a 'action' movie. Hot garbage.

As a childhood fan of Power Rangers, I cut this film a lot of slack. It looks like the filmmakers took some time to dig a little deeper than an audience would expect, but I wish they had dug even more. Rita's entire subplot is very thin in both purpose and motivation. The history of the Rangers with Zordon is interesting but should have been explored better. The rangers were almost stereotypes. But there was some fun to be had here and hints at an interesting future. A nice movie, wanted more
