Poor O'Brien. He got destroyed by CGI dinos at the box office when Jurassic Park crushed Last Action Hero, then he ended up being surrounded by cut price dinos in Moonbeam's debut in the very same year. Band's kid friendly subsidiary helped create a rift between Full Moon and Paramount, and the films produced under this label were invariably lousy, even for him. Allen's stop motion effects have a certain low rent charm, but the terrible acting and atrocious dialogue relegate it to the trash bin.

The 90s were a traumatic time for dinosaurs.

Though the dialogue is often clunky, the characters not-so-fleshed-out, and the plot a little too paint-by-numbers in parts, this is still far from an awful movie. Much of the enjoyment here lies in the dinos themselves, who look pretty cool & are adorable in every scene they're in. The performances aren't bad, either, though nobody really stands out apart from Stephen Lee, who's excellent as Rico. The themes are nothing new, but they still land for the most part. It's not great, but it's okay.
