Horribly dated, the soundtrack sounds like they are intentionally trying to piss you off and the obsession over Molly Ringwald in this movie is baffling. The whole "girl from the wrong side of town" doesn't apply in the real world. If you're hot, dudes are gonna wanna bang you no matter how much money you have. Hughes was either delusional or possibly home schooled to write that. The hair in this movie is an embarrassment to humanity.

Has a horribly dull story/premise and the most unlikable heroine in cinema history. I mean, I'm as anti-"nice" guy as there is, but Jesus, she bled Duckie dry. It also happens to be a beautifully shot and dressed movie. I'm not shallow enough to say it's good, but I do own the movie on DVD and watch it every year or so for purely aesthetic reasons. It's my Birth of a Nation.

I've never seen this film but I knew every song and twist. This was the model teen romance film. Ducky is one of the most interesting characters I've seen not because I like him, but because he exemplifies the Nice Guy™ in the best and worst ways. The dad was a good side character. Annie Potts was the most attractive of them all even though she claims she's their mom's age. Lame Hollywood ending. Memorable music; bad music editing. Fav scene: dance in record store.

Not my favourite Hughes film. Ducky, who the film tries to paint as a sympathetic character, is one of the worst things I have ever seen on film (possibly hyperbole; I am not sure). Harry Dean Stanton has seen some shit. McCarthy looks perpetually lost and doesn't have much chemistry with Ringwald. This film is Ringwald's, and she is very good.

It's certainly affective and sensitive, but why the hell did she have to stay with the rich guy at the end anyway? I feel miserable for Duckie, that moron that stalked her for a decade and ended up alone, forced to hook up with a fuckin' dumb chick. I think the finale is the most depressing in the history of human kind.

Pretty mediocre Molly Ringwald 80's film. The reason why it's memorable is because it's just a part of 80's culture. The story is typical teen romance stuff and the acting is middling to mediocre. Pretty forgettable if not for Molly Ringwald.

This movie probably gets at least 5 to 10 nostalgia points; I was fifteen when it was released, and I've watched it too many times to count. Andie should have ended up with Duckie, but that's about the only real quibble I have with it. Additionally, the soundtrack is fantastic.

Pretty in Pink is frightfully dated, but it is an archetypal 80's brat pack, romantic comedy. It's cute and sweet, and kind of a classic, but for reasons that no one can really describe. Pretty good!

Terribly dated. TERRIBLY. The music sounds like random noises mashed together. Some of the main plot feels really strange ("THOSE DAMN RICH PEOPLE BEING ALL RICH!") but, to be fair, some of the scenes feel really genuine. Also James Spader is in this which is a plus.

What we have here is a much less radical movie than writer Hughes probably believes he has created. Yes, he's given us an individualistic girl, but she swoons like a robot after the first reasonably human WASP or WASC asks her for a date.

Hughes seems to farm his worst scripts out to other directors. The plot is older than D.W. Griffith, and not at all disguised by the 80s mufti in which it's dressed up. Technically slick, but it has no feeling for the lives and cares of real teenagers. And it's hard to feel too sorry for a financially underprivileged teenager who has her own car and answering machine!

Hated the ending. Blaine was a total dick, and she's got a guy in Ducky that'd do anything for her, and she goes with the total dick. I don't like reality in my cheesy 80s movies. Ducky probably went home and offed himself while Blaine knocked Andie up. But, the Smiths are on the soundtrack. Morrissey can make anyone feel better just because he's so pitiful, so I can't dislike this movie.

In retrospect Pretty in Pink doesn't hold up to other John Hughes classics. In comparison it lacked the charm that movies like 16 Candles, Breakfast Club, and Home Alone had. It also wasn't in the vein of charming John Hughes comedies like Planes Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The whole movie hinges on a very underwhelming poor vs rich conflict and as a result the characters come off flat and one dimensional.

Jen Kirkman: "My favorite John Hughes movie is Pretty in Pink. You played Molly Ringwald's dad. Do you have an opinion of who she should have ended up with? She did end up with Blane, the rich guy. A lot of people think she should have ended up with her best friend Ducky. Are you happy with how they ended the movie with her ending up with Blane - as her dad?" Harry Dean Stanton: "...I don't give a fuck."

I wasn't crazy about this one when I was a sixth-grader going through all of the John Hughes movies. Now, I like it a lot more, but it's definitely missing that extra something. It seems like the Brat Pack movie that's trying the hardest to appeal to punks - I mean, that soundtrack is amazing - that record store is beautiful. The scene where Duckie mimes along to Otis Redding is a work of art.

It was funny in parts and some of the emotional scenes were done quite well. It looks like it was made on another planet to me - being born in 92 - and the ending was pretty abysmal. The soundtrack didn't do much for me, it felt like there was a song between every line of dialogue. The dress was awful too, what was that about? I did have a good time though.

Hughes at the height of his powers. Outside of the action genre, the mid to late 80s belonged to John Hughes. Sixteen Candles, Planes trains and automobiles, Uncle Buck, Vacation, Ferris Beuler. Before he hammed it up with Home Alone and out and out lost it with Flubber and Beethoven, he was writing some of the most relatable, re-watchable and complex studies of youth any art medium has ever produced. Pretty in Pink is one of his crowning achievements and a masterpiece of its genre.

Featuring solid performances by a talented cast, particularly Ringwald, Cryer, Spader & Stanton, as well as a great mid-80's soundtrack, it's a typical love triangle type story that plays out just as you'd expect it to. But, it's executed (for the most part) so well that it's pretty easy to forgive the weaker moments. The relationship between Andie & her dad is a highlight, as is the arc of the Duckie character. It's a fun ride, & definitely worth watching.

Funny, how main characters had (have?) to be blunt and empty so dumb dumbs can project stuff into them (Music? What kind of music? Doesn't matter, I like music too... and boys). The side characters are fun and intresting. The ending is brutally shitty: here, pseudo-feministic icon... you have to choose between rich weak noodle or stalking ADHS boy who doesn't know he is gay yet. The world will only offer these two choices. Also, great hair everyone!

Watchable, but barely. Had I known how it would conclude I never would have watched it. The ending, changed because of a fucking test audience, is a complete disappointment. That aside, the only real redeeming aspect of this film is the subplot featuring Harry Dean Stanton.

Better than I remembered. I always forget that John Hughes only wrote the script, but Howard Deutch does a great job as a director. It's a timeless story, works just fine all the years later and has clearly been an inspiration on TV series like Stranger Things and Veronica Mars. Ringwald, McCarthy, Cryer & Potts might not be good actors, but they fit their roles perfectly. Stanton has never been as sympathetic and Spader is great as the slimy yuppie. They don't make 'em like this anymore..

The character motivations/reactions are so divorced from reality in this one that the whole thing feels surreal.
