First half hour was actually promising, with a weird mix of western and sci-fi, horror movie and teocratic dystopia. But the vampires were a huge disappointment. They're just mindless beasts and not even designed interestingly. And from there, it just dissolved into a run-of-the-mill monsterhunting movie.

While it certainly does not achieve a level above its niche and genre, there are some good visuals alongside the unpleasant black-and-blue, and Maggie Q is a badass. I like Paul Bettany, too. (The other lead has the charisma of a wet noodle).

If you want a dumb sci-fi supernatural action movie, this will do the job pretty well. My biggest complaint, which is pretty common with this type of movie, is that they really should have gone even bigger and even dumber, and have no delusions about the dumbness of what they're making.
