Gene Hackman has the single greatest douchebag laugh in history.

Is Sissy Spacek sexy? I don't know. It's one of life's great questions really. I think that here, in her film debut, she's pretty damn sexy. Anyway, Prime Cut is a fun film with some really fascinating ideas, but they never come together as a satisfying final product. The last scene, with Sissy punching out that lady and all of the kids running into the field, is beyond brilliant, though.

Excellent crime/action/thriller set in the country instead of the more customary urban landscape. There's nothing groundbreaking about it but it's just extremely well crafted. Lighthearted and accessible but also clever and very tense, has really lush visuals and great performances from Marvin and Hackman. I even found the shootout scenes exciting, whereas in most movies they bore me.

Furious Tarantino-avant-la-lettre fun, maximal sleaziness and some amazing set pieces (like the combine harvester chase). An early grindhouse classic. I'm typing this with my left hand and my hotdog-hand

No frills 70s gangster action. Lee Marvin is from the Chicago mob and goes to Kansas to collect a $500,000 debt from Gene Hackman who runs the Kansas mob. Hackman also has a sex slave trade on the side, selling girls from a local orphanage to rich old dudes. It's got a couple of great chases and shootouts, plus full frontal nudity from a really young Sissy Spacek. Oh, and a wheat harvester/baler eats a car. Yeah.

Exciting crime drama that doesn't rely on constantly body counts and endless violence to entertain. Lee Marvin and Gene Hackman are superb as the two principles. While the movie itself isn't tremendously new the iconic combine harvester chase makes this an absolute must see.

Movie starts with Sissy Spacek buck naked. Movie ends with Sissy Spacek decking some old bitch in the face. In between, Lee Marvin and Gene Hackman exchange curt one-liners and shoot a bunch of each other's dudes, followed by each other, while Sissy Spacek graduates from nude to sheer negligee. Verdict: hell yeah.

Hackman is Hackman, but Marvin gives a boring performance, and though the movie seems preoccupied with revelling in various disgusting and even grotesque things, it's a bit of a drag too.

I have a hard time rating this movie, but in the end I go for the most flourishing consideration: The film gives a hugely uncomfortable feeling in the way it presents trafficking in women in the context of low, banal rural morality, and then Spacek even blows that up into an advertisement for perverse porn - and it is precisely that feeling that raises moral questions in my own mind. So that must be masterful? And yes I know I'm propably overthinking this.

This is a standard good guy vs bad guy movie. Good antagonist.

Like everyone says Lee Marvin is so fuckin cool. Surprisingly funny movie. The scene of them running thru the fair was perfectly filmed.

Starting from the opening scene, "Prime Cut" sets out to shock. They are letting us know that the bad guys are so bad that mobsters can be the good guys. The subject matter and style of the film didn't work for me.

I was quite surprised by some of the strange sensibilities of this movie from the early '70s. Also, I was a little shocked at how poorly the story was written. But at least there are some premium Sissy Spacek views that elevate the visuals immeasurably. The seasoned enforcers from Chicago seemed more like green recruits, and the love story aspects were so mismatched it felt far fetched at best. Worth watching but antiquated and truly lacking anything brilliant.

There are some great grindhousey scenes and ideas in PRIME CUT: a chase scene involving a combine, mob enforcers being ground into sausages, sex slaves being sold in cattle pens, and a superb final shootout. Add in a nice (if too-brief) villainous turn by Gene Hackman, a good debut for Sissy Spacek, and a great Lalo Schifrin score, and you would expect a classic. But the good parts don't really coalesce into a whole, and Lee Marvin seems a bit bored by it all. Not bad, but not great either.

THAT'S SISSY SPACEK?! The grossest thing in this movie is Gene Hackman tucking away a giant plate of offal: you're gonna get gout Mary Ann!!!

Watching the ultra cool Lee Marvin take down slimy Gene Hackman is very satisfying. There is a bit of hicksploitation with a story that is quite dark in its subject manner.
