Meryl Streep is always great but it doesn't save this movie

Great fun for its first two acts, with Thurman having a blast in a rare romantic lead, and La Streep swooping in to steal the movie from all around her (her reaction shots as the conceit plays out are priceless). The good spirits outweigh some credibility issues, however the abrupt switch to a more serious tone towards the finale throws the film off balance (it’s hard to take these characters seriously after behaving so erratically in the earlier stages). Caveats noted, it’s an overall success.

Very nice first half but then it badly deteriorates

This all seems like mindless enough, B-minus material until Meryl Streep shows up, illustrating vividly just awful this whole flick is as she vainly struggles to make something--ANYTHING--of what she is given to work with.

Well made comedy with good performances, though the ending was a bit of a letdown.

Sloppy direction mars this otherwise entertaining romantic comedy about a patient (Thurman) who falls for the son (Greenberg) of her therapist (Streep); great performances, surprising sweet and realistic ending.

For a romantic comedy it's not romantic or funny. It's actually very banal and tedious

It's about as average as romcoms get, which makes it more or less crap.

Amiable fluff, with solid performances by Thurman, Greenberg, and Streep. It won't be remembered by anyone, but it's easy to watch, and ends in a non-typical fashion, with enough investment in the characters to keep it compelling the whole way.

This romantic comedy is not a great thing. The only interesting thing is the work of A Thurman and Meryl Streep.

I like this movie. It has a realistic ending unlike most romantic comedies. I was pleasantly surprised by this film. Who wouldn't fall in love with Uma Thurman?

The scenes between Thurman and Streep are the highlights. The rest is very cliched.

I only watched this movie because of Meryl Streep. I am very sorry, but this movie is just awful. The acting is bad, the writing is even worse and I would not have thought it possible to have such poor directing in a movie starring Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep. Having one good idea (a therapist whose patient is sleeping with her son) should not justify producing an entire film! The 10 I give are only fore Meryl Streep.

Romance films these days are far too mopey. They insist on showing the up and down of the relationship and always spend too long on the down, when it's the up we like to see. This is a prime example, fun for 20-30 minutes until it gets serious. Pretty disappointing.

Bar one section of the plot, the therapist triangle, this is a very realistic portrail of a relationship. They don't cheap out on it either. It's only really let down by a scene towards the end that seems to be rushed and outwith the tone.

This is tedious and most certainly not worth your time... My recommendation is to spend the 2 hours of not-watching-this-film trying to create the most banal relationship you can and then just sort of drift away from each other once you hit your 2 hour time limit. Or do some knitting. Either way you'll feel better, and you may have a hand-knitted penis-hat by the end of it (shameless reference to the only line in the film).
