Long past his sell-by date as a serious auteur, David Gordon Green now sort of comes off like a likable, goofily earnest cornball uncle who it's fun to have a few beers with once and a while.

Rudd and Hirsch play off each other really well but the fact that I watched this a month ago and I can't add anything more, somes it up for me.

Malick reverence, with a conversational acting style, a focus on montage, and dwelling on natural splendor. All through a light and modest comedic filter. This is the mode in which David Gordon Green works best.

A simple movie on dealing with life's struggles. Deluding, avoiding, and moving on.

I've got a soft spot for these kind of indies - minimal cast, bare storyline, but a wonderful combination of everything else that allows you to immerse yourself completely in the world created, chilling out with the characters as they go about their lives. The topics of conversation here aren't very deep but they get you thinking (sometimes a little too much), and you're happy to float along to the conclusion. As a mate said, "Nothing much happens, it's a little bit weird, but I liked it."

Loved this. Loved how simple it was, loved the unexpectedly beautiful cinematography, loved Emile Hirsch and especially my favorite guy Paul Rudd. It's funny and sweet and even a bit heartwarming. I like the "comedy Malick" comparison. That really puts the movie's rhythms into perspective.

I liked the performances by the leads and the story is told in a nice way. Story has few surreal elements that work well and they give this film a more unique voice. Some of the directing choices by David Gordon Green seemed a little off to me.

Phenomenal chemistry between Hirsch and Rudd are what drives this very simplistic tale. There are several quotable laugh out loud moments alongside a very enjoyable soundtrack.

It's a subtext heavy movie with gorgeous scenery, a top notch score, and a couple really nice performances. Green takes the good from his goofy comedies and injects it into his more subdued style. The scene with the burned house is something I could watch repeatedly.

Prince Avalanche is unlikely to leave a huge mark on anyone's life, but for a quiet and beautiful movie about two lonely people traveling down the road together, it makes for strong drama and a few decent laughs. The characters are given ample time to talk, fight, and grow, and the script gives them plenty of opportunity to state whatever opinion on any subject the filmmakers feel like mentioning. It's not heavy on plot but it's got enough going on that it's never boring.

Solid performances considering there is not much of a story to go on. I am also a big fan of Explosions in the Sky as well.

Sets a masterful mood through its beautiful palette, moving score and a clear policy of showing, not telling. The arms-length characterisation makes it difficult to truly love, but this is certainly a thoughtful and engaging film.

There is numerous shots of beautiful scenery in this film. The script is simple but it works. Both Paul Rudd and Emile Hircsh do good work here and they have good chemistry together. I would recommend this film.

Is it a sign of the times when, in the '70s, tons of movies were about people with everyday jobs like steel mill, oil rig, pencil-pusher, builder, etc., and now everything is about cops, gangsters, lawyers, power brokers and shit? Because I think that's a big reason why I'm so refreshed by this film. Also it's arguably a step back in the right direction for David Gordon Green, shuffling affably along with a pair of charming, vulnerable and low-key performances from Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch.

Prince Avalanche is typical of DGG in low budget mode: it's characterised by a rustic low key setting, beautiful scenery, modest ambition, and a natural free flowing quality that makes his films pleasantly watchable but never truly gripping. It benefits greatly from a pair of good performances from Rudd and Hirsch, who share real chemistry, and from Or's vivid landscape photography and use of saturated primary colours. Its dramatic slightness remains a sore point though.

i quite like this, but i think it's because i'm drawn to the isolated setting. the inclusion of Joyce Payne and the empty house is serendipitous and gives this film one of its most magical moments. i often wonder what this film could have been had it been more like that scene, which mostly feels incongruous

An unexpectedly engaging 'two men spend time together and find themselves' film, mainly due to the very likeable performances of both Rudd and Hirsch (although perhaps in this case Hirsch is trying a little too much to be like Jack Black).

If Terrence Malick made a comedy, it might be a little like this. Strange, elliptical, atmospheric and often beautiful. Slight, but poignant and interesting.

I am so conflicted. On one end, some of this just dragged hard. Not a lot happened, and I felt the movie sometimes tried too hard to be atmospheric and beautiful. On the other end, the Explosions in the Sky OST helped tremendously (though one particular scene I thought the music was great but was used poorly and the scene was cheesy), and I always enjoy Rudd. By the end of the film, it gave me a feeling that maybe I witnessed something important, despite the flaws. So I guess I liked it.

Simple story involving two dudes becoming bros. It can drag at times, but Rudd and Hirsch are very good so it mostly works.

Basically, two semi-grown men romp around in woodland Texas and form a unique bond while crying about women and relationships. Decent, but Brokeback Mountain was way better (and steamier). Explosions in the Sky's soundtrack was nice.

The setting is gorgeous (and shot beautifully), and Rudd & Hirsch have an easy chemistry in their scenes together (Rudd especially proves he can pull off a role that's not explicitly comedic). But the script drags, and there's few dramatic or personal stakes to be found. Plus there's a semi-supernatural element dropped into the last third that's just baffling. Great soundtrack, though.

Alvin isn't as mature as he'd like to think, nor is Lance as useless, and it's enjoyable and rewarding to watch each arrive at these conclusions through little more than 90 minutes of conversation. Plus a weird shared hallucination that the film doesn't really bother explaining, because why bother? Nice EitS score.

Much of the film was made without a script and figured out on the spot and that really shows as Prince Avalanche is an extremely mediocre short film surrounded by enough completely pointless time killing imagery to pad the runtime out to feature length. I'm pretty sure about 1/5 of the movie is footage of nature and insects and animals without any relevance or substance.

This is one helluva downer of a movie, and dressing Paul Rudd as a Super Mario Bro doesn't help one bit. It's very small movie, just two characters talking about relationships. Bros before hoes. The minor characters seems like a random weird old people stumbling onto the set. Touching and real, but forgettable minor indie drama.

An interesting and entertaining film. Subtle and reserved, it's very much one of those snapshot - almost documentary-esque - films. Paul Rudd gives a surprisingly subdued performance and Hirsch - though not massively likeable a character - still manages to engage. The inspired inclusion of a genuine forest fire victim gives an element of emotional resonance to an otherwise sparse plot. The opportunistic nature of the filming is slightly obvious, but there's a tale there and it has a nice feel.

This film veers into some transcendentalist philosophy as Paul Rudd's character talks about how he loves the wildlife while taking in the nature around him. There are some beautiful shots of nature, that remind me of how Gordon Green really loves to illustrate how Malick is one of his influences. I also thoroughly enjoyed how this film believes that men can work through their problems by open, honest, and authentic communication.

I started watching this... I remember as much, but cannot remember if I finished it. It was beyond mediocre and painful to watch, I think I just couldn't finish it. Maybe I was disappointed in the role that Paul Rudd portrayed, as he is a comedic genius and this is far... far below his talent. I just can't find any merit in the movie neither as a drama, nor a comedy. It would have fared far better as a short movie in my opinion.
