The plot goes back and forth between the perfunctory and the absolutely ridiculous. Gyllenhaal (seeming not entirely comfortable in the role) and Arterton (pouting) have precisely zero chemistry. The action is unimpressive. I thought the film was unfunny and, even worse, no fun.

Alfred Molina as the comic relief, and the decent action scenes were the only redeeming qualities of this film. Gylenhaal and Arterton had absolutely no chemistry, and the romance in general was just bathetic and pathetic. Also being Persian and seeing that sometimes you would hear Arabic in the background, and NOT Persian was bafflingly engrossing. Still, having so much to hate this film for, it is still one of the best video game adaptations to date, if that means anything, at all.

Decent popcorn flick that passes the time. Gyllenhaal and Artertnon had forced chemistry but as far as main players were concerned, Arterton was the weakest cast member. Highly predictable but there is some fun to be had even if it tries a bit too hard to be like 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. Impressive sand sliding and roof top scenes take this up a few levels to be enjoyable.

HELLO IT'S SUMMERRRRRR. OK, so it's silly and loud but frankly, all I wanted was a silly loud film so I'm satisfied. Jake's accent is pretty good, Arterton is very pretty and does what acting is allowed in these films. It wasn't spoiled too much by having the reels in the wrong order either. Also, kudos to Alfred Molina as the comic relief.

Any high adventure blockbuster without a threatening level of stupidity and decent flow is ok to go for me if I'm in that particular mood. This reminded me of Mummy, while that has better pacing, chemistry between the cast, they are very similar. I wish they give the actors some room to breathe in, there is nothing Kingsley can do with the bad guy makeup and stale character. Maybe this series will have more entertainment value as it goes along.

Enjoyable enough as a Cheap Ticket Tuesday summer movie. The opening is incredibly rushed (so is the ending, for that matter) which makes it difficult to care much for the characters. But the actors do their best with what little material there is. The middle section, where Gyllenhaal and Arterton are alone in the desert, is where most of the fun is had -- supplied largely by Alfred Molina, but also their royal bickering. The action is largely ruined by poor editing choices. Oh well.

Gyllenhaal gives a charisma-free performance which only serves to show how lucky PotC was to have someone like Depp as the star. When combined with with Arterton's recycled 'every haughty princess ever' and a bad guy twist you'll guess in the first 5 minutes you're left with a movie that looks nice but is ultimately hollow. The movie really lacks any real heart, it comes off as a by-the-numbers attempt to create a franchise, PotC style, but doesn't have that movie's wit or sense of fun.

Enjoyable the same way as PotC, just with a different cast and sand instead of water. Loved to see Gyllenhaal in the lead in such a big action flick as I love the man, and his accent is not a problem. Also Arterton is for once not awful and the rest of the supporting cast is good. Really predictable, and the exposition is horribly forced, but what do you expect. Set it aside the dreadful Clash of the Titans and it's hard to hate this. Easily the best video game adaptation movie out there.

Gyllenhaal's acting and accent is completely forced, Arterton is awful and the plotline is really predictable. But still, the action is impressive and it has enough fun, adventure and excitement to keep one occupied. Very similiar to and reminds me of POTC. The best video game adaptation thus far.

having played the video games prior i knew the deal, but WTF i thought this was going to be a whole bunch of time reversing awesomeness, instead he uses the dagger like twice, i am not happy with that. still, this movie has some decent action and whoever was doubling for gyllenhaal for that parkour stuff did a great job--and probably had more screen time that jake himself. i still can't ignore the english accents for everyone--so we're american? did they think we wouldn't notice?

I know it's not very good, and yet I can't rate it too lowly. It's just a bit of harmless Disney-style entertainment without too many pretentions. The stunts that were lifted from the game were decent (despite obtrusive editing) and the whole thing looked nice at least. Yes, the acting was weak, the story laughable and the ending anticlimactic, and yet... and yet... I really can't hate it, even though I should. I'm getting weak.

Breathtaking... ly ridiculous. It's so over-the-top and nonsensical, but I didn't really mind that aspect. I think they got the casting dead wrong here, it would have been cooler with known actors playing the royalty and an unknown as the rogue. Jake did not convince for a second that he was Persian... or anything else except a cartoon. Action scenes were ok. Nothing memorable. Dialogue really bad. Didn't like the comic relief. Certainly no classic, but entertaining enough for a one-time watch.

For a film about a game based on acrobatics, the filming of such scenes was very poor. The camera seemed to be going at a different pace to the action, and the CGI team were forced to do their best to cover this up with highly convenient motion blur. Acting wise it was fairly average, with Gyllenhaal delivering not his best nor his worst performance and Arterton...well, Arterton yelled "Dastan!" a lot. It has it's moments of sweeping action and it certainly has comedic value, but it isn't great.

While it falls short of the pinnacle of being good, it's basically competent, with pacing, structure, and production values that actually resemble a real movie. This pretty much by default makes it the best video game adaptation ever made. Jake Gyllenhaal is relatively charmless in the leading role - Dastan is sure as fuck no Jack Sparrow - but hey, it's still better than Clash of the Titans.

I expected this to be awful, especially since I'm not a fan of the games. Jake did a good job, even though I think the casting was wrong. Everyone else mostly did a good enough job. The visuals were pretty awesome though, I especially liked watching time go back. The action scenes were entertaining. As someone said, pure popcorn flick, but I enjoyed my watch and I'll never watch it again.

Definitely one of the more enjoyable blockbusters of recent times. To be honest, I don't think Gemma Arterton is a very good actress (although she is stunningly hot) but this is one of her better roles, and the rest of the cast are good to watch, especially Toby Kebbell who as usual fills his role very well. The action sequences are good and there is plenty of light hearted comedy to be had. Can't really complain...

A very poorly written film, especially in terms of the character interplay which can only be described as "corny." Jake Gyllenhaal will go down as one of the biggest miscasts of 2010 as his undeniably American look combined with his unnatural accent stick out like a sore thumb amidst his Persian companions.

Does a nice job of capturing the look and feel of the video games on which it's based. Although the sword fighting was poorly choreographed and the filming didn't show what was going on, the chase sequences were fantastic. Better than the Mummy, better than Pirates of the Caribbean, and better than Avatar. However for those who didn't play the games first, I can understand if they don't get as much out of this film.

It's not awful. The plot is ridiculous, which wouldn't be an awful thing if the crux of the movie didn't make it so any dire situation could be taken back with the push of a button. The action scenes can be cool, but are too often laced with a bunch of lame free running stuff. As a video game adaptation it's good, but there aren't many other ones that aren't blatantly awful. Ending is pretty terrible and leaves a bad taste in what is by all accounts a mediocre movie.

PoP,SoT proves that just because a film is poorly cast, has a terrible story / script and lousy acting, it can still be good "popcorn fun". What Kingsley, Molina and Gyllenhaal were doing in this film heaven only knows; they make a mockery of the word "Persia" in the title. At times, Jake is looking at Gemma, almost mouthing her lines for her, like some on-screen prompter, as he waits for her to deliver another bit of much needed exposition, in order to make any sense of this. But hey, it's fun!

I'm bucking the trend. Forget the video game or you'll be disappointed. However, with no previous knowledge this instantly carried the Disney hallmark - in a good way. It's not a deliberate pastiche and is enjoyable but it's a composite. Sets via Indiana Jones, Parcours from Casino Royale, desert scenes a la Star Wars, Arrows/knives by Robin Hood and a smattering of Pirate of the Caribbean. Not bad for its genre - far from the worst in class. Worth watching

This movie was too long. That was the biggest flaw with it. I thought the effects were really cool, especially the dagger's powers. I also thought that the assassins were cool with their killer snakes and throwing blades. Even Jake Gyllenhaal surprised me and came off being pretty Persian which I was dubious about. Gemma Arterton was also a very beautiful princess with a lot of 'tude. With all that combined though, the great length of this movie spoiled it for me and I grew bored. A shame.

A bit dim-witted and a good twenty minutes to a half hour too long, but as a harmless popcorn flick it's acceptable. Molina and Kingsley provide the only real moments of any quality, the action is basic but well enough thought out, Arterton is talentless but easy on the eye and Gyllanhaal is a bit flat but just about has enough presence to lead the film. Anyways, it's not cliche the cool way like in "Run you fools"-LOTR-style, it's on the verge of being good-because-its-so-bad.... which is the worst. There's actually a scene in 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' where Prince Dastan explains to Princess Tamina what they both witnessed three different times in the same sentence. That's what you're dealing with in this flick. Too much of everything and it all gets you absolutely nowhere. The CGI cancels out any cool stunt work that may have been done practically. The dialogue and bad accents step all over any decent acting. What would be quick and fun is long and drawn out. Just a bad time.

Arabian Night-ly video game of computerized desertscapes, an all-over rosy glow, a magic dagger than can turn back time, a pretentious and presumptuous plot parallel to the present-day search for nonexistent WMDs in Iraq, and a British-accented Jake Gyllenhaal to fit in with Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina, and Gemma Arterton, not to mention director Mike Newell. Pretty mediocre but it's really no worse than the Mummy or POTC series and a bit better in some respects. The city scape/costumes in this are top notch. The parkour inspired action scenes and the kinetic use of projectile weapons is a nice change of pace from just action swordplay. The casting choices are a bit strange however. Gyllenhaal is much better as a low key dramatic actor than he is an action hero. The rest was adequate but no one seemed particularly enthusiastic with their role.
