Proxy is a solid entry into the style of slow, dark, minimalist thrillers such as Blue Ruin and Enemy. Though it had potential to be a standard. The slow pace aids the hypnotic tension, but this is a film that doesn't benefit from a two hour length and certain digressions should've been cut down or cut out entirely. There's also a loose theme about motherhood vanity that nothing's really done with, so its only acknowledged. And much of the dialogue is overly explanatory and contrived.

The poster it is almost as the "Rosemary's Baby" the one with Mia Farrow looking upwards. The end ruins a bit everything but I promise that it would be a great experience.

Maybe worth it if you want to check out an off-beat, wandering plotline and Hitchcock-ian atmosphere.

Proxy does what it wants for for two hours, with a pace and a tone that is almost Hitchcockian. The payoff wasn't there, but I enjoyed the ride.

in between the various flaws there were spells when i felt i was watching one of the most fresh and intense psychological thrillers in a long time.

Proxy's unconventional story will keep you intrigued. This movie reminded me of Gone Girl. In one scene in particular, the film techniques made violence look more like ballet. If you are looking for a disturbing and gritty psychological film with sharp turns everywhere, look no further.

A bit too slow for its own good, but immensely weird, tense and definitely unpredictable. i had to look up what the title meant in this context, and it seems to refer to "Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy". however, i'd recommend keeping yourself in the dark until you've seen it once, as the definition might give away too much.

I found the off-the-wall narrative twists this movie took very entertaining; it has one of the most amazingly insane mid-way about-faces I've ever seen in a movie. It's too bad the ending is so dumb. I almost rated it lower for that but decided to reward the interesting choices made earlier. Swanberg is catastrophically miscast, and the regressive conflation of lesbianism and mental illness is pretty baffling. I suspect the next movie this guy makes will come and go without a trace.

Slow moving, unnerving, unpleasant psychological horror movie that kept me guessing at what will happen next, and what kind of crazy do these women have (the skill I'm trying to master that I found both useful and interesting). The title gives a clue, but this one is new to me and I had to look it up (MSBP). Anyway, it's not a fun movie, use of slow-motion and the attempts at artistry are just funny, and I wasn't sure if I like it any right till the end, when it wrapped up nicely.

I can see a lot of parts of this movie coming off as really off-putting, but I just ate it right up. I was really surprised by a twist around the halfway mark of the movie, and I couldn't look away because I just wanted to see what kind of crazy would win out in the end. The characters come across as more and more horrible as time goes on, and I got this feeling like they were capable of anything. Kind of mesmerizing.

Has strong moments but is wildly inconsistent. The ending would have maybe made the trip worth it but that was kind of a letdown and made all the twists and turns feel somewhat pointless.

There's a lot wrong with this film and a lot right with it. I'm not sure which way it falls in the end but it's worth giving a go despite its many flaws

OK, so "Proxy" is by no means a perfect film. Like some sort of twisted dark version of "The Place Beyond The Pines", its storyline connects more by themes than by actual, well, story. And there are times when it slows to such a crawl that I almost lose interest altogether. Still, it deserves props for not flinching, and for taking the idea of why we crave other peope's suffering and giving it a good whirl - "Martyrs" it ain't, but it probably sits in the back at the same support group.

My life has been so full of Heroes of the City on Youtube (I recommend Camping Troubles. Calamity Crow goes camping and it does NOT go well) that my recent movie selections have been decidedly adult to sort of center myself. But my God, what was I thinking? This here starts off jarringly distastful and then ventures all the way into unpleasant. Thematically, I don't need this in my life. I've yet to watch Drinking Buddies, but I kid you not, Joe Swanberg is walking around thinking he's an actor.
