Pure Heart

The plot is disjointed, haphazard, and over-long, while the camera work is often iffy. However, there were moments of cinematographic beauty along with an excellent soundtrack.

Unmistakeably Bollywood, with it's emphasis on singing and dancing, long runtime, and melodramatic romance narrative. But even though none of those things particularly appeal to me I was still won over by the strong execution. The film is a visual treat, the dancing adds to that, and the story takes some interesting turns and is very compelling thanks to the way it emphasizes inner and social turmoil.

An overly melodramatic drama of a prostitute who falls in love, gets married, runs away from her in-laws house to live in a cemetery only to give bird to a girl who with relive the same fate. The songs are good, the performances were okay but the direction and editing left much to be desired.

A beautiful film, with gorgeous colors, lavish sets, and graceful camera moves that take full advantage of the wide scope. The story avoids the Bollywood pitfall of trying to be everything to everyone: there's no dumb comedy, action or mystery scenes, just a straight romantic melodrama, with some glorious musical numbers. Unfortunately the songs were not subtitled in the version I saw. But I got the gist of it, and it's a moving and compelling story, with a strong central character.
